Tonight's run

Today was a 5 mile run, according to my training plan. But, as usual, it was VERY hot outside and there was quite a thunderstorm going on. So, I knew I would have to face the treadmill instead. I figured maybe if I watched my dvr'd Sister Wives, time would fly by!
I ran 3.5 miles and was ready to stop. There was no way I could do another mile and a half, it's just SO boring!
As I was quitting, J said I should run the remaining 1.5 outside, that it had cooled down and was just sprinkling.  So, I did it! I went outside and ran the whole thing without stopping! It was so amazing. There was lightening all around, and a light, cool rain- ahhh, it was wonderful! I really felt like I could keep going, but decided to go ahead and stop when I got to 5 miles.
As I was running, I was thinking back to the time when I could only run from my driveway, barely to the end of the street, way less than .25 of a mile. And now I can run 1.5 without stopping and without feeling like I'm going to die! It is such a wonderful feeling, just seeing how far I've come. That's just proof that ANYONE can do this. I hear people all the time saying they could never run, it's too hard, blah blah. But I used to say those same things! How bad do you want it!
And I KNOW running 1.5 without stopping is not some huge accomplishment. I know people who can run 13 miles without stopping. But for me it's a huge accomplishment and I know someday I will be that person who can run a half marathon without stopping!!

  2. I WISH it would rain here! We are not used to such dry weather in upstate NY! I actually had a dream I had a training run in the rain last night, it's my favorite kind of run. Good luck on your journey! I'm working towards my first half marathon too.
