Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Day!

This was my first month participating in the Foodie Pen Pals. It involves foodie loving people sending and receiving packages of fun/yummy stuff each month.

Luckily for me, I was paired up with 2 newbies, like myself!

 I sent my package to Bobbi, and you can see what I sent her at Smudas Blogspot, and I received a package from the lovely Carla, at Baking not Banking.
  Shopping was fun, but I was so excited to get my package of goodies in the mail!
Carla lives in South Florida, and was born in Portugal! How cool is that!
 Here's a picture of the goodies right before I mauled sampled them!

Some things were wrapped in tissue paper, along with a sweet card.

I loved finding such a variety of things when I opened it!

Included were:
Whole wheat tomato basil linguine

Which, I turned into this...
Fire Roasted Tomato and Feta Pasta with Chicken


Delicious Biscotti from a local Italian Bakery,
which I had with my coffee the next morning.

A Kind Bar! I had never had one of these before, but I'm hooked now!
This went straight into my mouth purse for a pre-run snack!

These were TO DIE FOR homemade cookies with pumpkin, fall spices, oats, walnuts and butterscotch chips.
My whole family loved these! Yes, I shared. I promise. I really did.

and smelly good hanging things.
The candle was Pumpkin Cupcake. Wow.

And then the cutest little spatula I've ever seen, which has been getting a lot of use.
And a kitchen towel, which goes perfectly with my Fall deco!

Yummy Breakfast Parfait

I just have to share my breakfast, because it was SO good! My lovely twin sister told me about this creation, so I just had to make it!
 I used 1 cup of organic, lowfat Stoneyfield french vanilla yogurt, 1/4 cup of Bare Naked peak protein granola and some frozen raspberries and blueberries. 

Around 250 calories of PURE YUMMINESS!!

Next time I will layer the parfait, to make it a little prettier. Because that is so important, ya know! :)

Me vs. Treadmill- Man vs. Food

Had a great 3 mile run on the treadmill tonight. I could've ran outside, but the thought of a fan blowing on me and being able to watch tv, kept me inside tonight!
I'm still pushing myself- and tonite got my best time ever!
Now, for the other part...I don't know why I decided to watch Man vs Food, but I did. I have seen it before, but not the whole thing. This time I watched the whole show. I don't know if running, while watching this guy gorge himself so much that he's physically uncomfortable and sweating, had anything to do with it, but I almost threw up! I know people will think "lighten up, it's just a show", but I think it's disgusting and gluttonous. 

Next time I'll stick to some good Jersey Shore.
(Totally kidding!!)

Getting faster!

I decided after my half marathon, that I was going to start working on my speed. I've been running for almost 2 years, have probably run 20 5k races, and my fastest time was 34 minutes! I've always complained about being a slow runner, because I hate it! I know my body can do more!
  So, I ran 3 miles today, my first run after my half. I ran on the treadmill, because of the rain. I ran almost the whole thing at a 9:15 pace! My stepson interrupted me once, so I had to slow down for a minute. 
 But, I have never done that before! As I was running I just realized I've never run faster before, because I've just never pushed myself harder. I'm comfortable at an 11-12 min pace, so that's what I do!
  NO MORE! From now on I'm going to push myself to do more, to go harder. Because I know I can!
No more being slow and comfortable, time to step out of my box and GO!

Half Marathon FINISHED!!

Yesterday I ran my first Half Marathon!! It was the Nashville Women's Half.
I had SO MUCH FUN!! It was really an awesome experience!
My honey and boys came with me, and we all went down Friday night.
We stopped at the Expo, and I got my goodie bags. I got 2 of them because a year ago I won a free registration to the 5k! So, although I wasn't running the 5k, I still was able to get the bag for it.
Saturday was also my stepson Jonah's, 13th birthday! So he chose to go to Logan's Steakhouse for dinner Friday night. That boy can sure put away a steak! All of the waitresses and waiter's came over and sang to him, and our waitress also told the whole restaurant that I was running a half marathon the next day!

We went back to our hotel, and I laid out everything I would need for the next morning.
Then I was in bed by 10! I woke up every single hour though, I was SO worried my alarm wouldn't go off! I finally woke up at 4:30, and didn't bother going back to sleep.
 My honey took me to the drop off at 6, and I kissed him goodbye and went and joined all the other women.
I had about an hour before race time started, so I just walked around, went to the bathroom a couple times, had someone take a picture of me...

Finally it was TIME!
I decided to join a pace group of 2:30. My last long run was 13 miles, and I finished in 2:45. So I was hoping I could do this race in 2:30.
I stayed right with him for 4 miles, no problem. And then I'm not sure what happened, I think it may have been a water stop that I walked through, but suddenly he was GONE! And I didn't see him again the rest of the race! I was really disappointed about that. :(
 Honestly, I felt so good! There were a few hills, I ran some and walked some of them.

The scenery was beautiful! 

My time at this point was where I expected it to be, but still, I was hoping it would be better!

There was a GU stop at mile 8, so I had some chocolate GU for the first time ever. It was disgusting! But it was 100 calories of pure energy, and I needed it!
I think around mile 10, I started getting tired. That's when I had to start talking to myself. I said I've done this before, I can do it again. This is what I've been training for! I knew I could do it!! No stopping now!
There were a lot of Gatorade and water stops, so that was really nice. I decided not to bring my handheld water bottle, because I knew that.
2 more miles!! Still feeling good!

About mile 12.5, I see my honey and my boys! I was so excited!! It's amazing how seeing them, really gave me that extra energy to give it my all to the finish line!

I finished in 2:43. Slower than I had hoped for, but I know next time I'll do better!
I was looking at the marathon photos online, and they took one of me crossing the finish line. I had this big, goofy grin on my face! I wanted to purchase it, but it cost $30!!! Just to download the image!! That is such a ripoff!! So, I can't do that, but my honey took some, after it was over.

I had a wonderful time!! I thought I would be bawling my eyes out at the finish line, but I didn't even shed a tear! I was just SO ecstatic!! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could run a half marathon! When I signed up, 6 months ago, I could barely do a 5k! I remember thinking I must be crazy to have signed up for a half, because there's no way I can do 10 more miles on top of this 5k!
 But that just proves that you can do ANYTHING! If you train, and are serious and motivated, nothing is impossible! I will never again be the overweight, non exercising person that I used to be!
 Next up...a triathlon next year, with Christie, and POSSIBLY a full marathon! (Which right now seems impossible!)
 Oh, and I finally got to put my sticker on my truck, thanks, Christie!!

2 more days and some goodies!!

I won a giveaway from Brittany at Barr and Table, and it came in the mail yesterday!!
It was from Premier Protein and it was 3 shakes and 6 bars. I tried the chocolate shake today- it was delicious! I can't wait to try the rest!
  2 more days till my Half Marathon!!! I am SO excited and SO nervous!! I'm really not nervous about the run at all, I know I can do that. I'm more nervous about 30,000 other women, and trying to find where I'm supposed to start...all that small stuff! But I know everything will work out just fine! I head out tomorrow morning for the Expo! My honey and boys are coming, so it'll be nice to have them there!
Now I'm off to start my packin!!

13 Miler!!

Well, my morning started a little 'off', but it ended up great!! This morning was my last long run before my Half next Saturday. I decided on the park I wanted to run at, so I left my house around 7:30 and got to the park around 8. When I got there it was packed, and the street was all backed up, there was some kind of Meet going on. I decided I didn't want to run there, and definitely didn't want to wait in all that traffic!
 So, I just kept driving, hoping I could find another park. After about 15 minutes of driving around (no, I wasn't lost, why would you think that!), I found one! I pulled in and it was beautiful!
It was a PERFECT morning. 55-60 degrees, sunny, slight wind- ahhh amazing.
I ran for 2 hours, 45 mins. Around a 12 min. pace. I ran almost the whole thing, but I hate being a slow runner! I've decided after this Half, I will start working on my speed. On the treadmill I can easily do 10 min pace, but outside I slow down for some reason!
 After I was done, I wasn't pouring sweat like I usually am! But oh, I have never felt such pain!! I seriously didn't know if I was going to be able to drive home!!
 I remember when I first started running 5k's, and getting home, and barely being able to walk inside the house. Lol! So, I know this too shall pass!! One of these days I'll do 13 miles- no problemo!
 My legs are still pretty sore, but my honey gave me a nice massage with some Arnica, that definitely helped!
I do believe I'm ready for my Half Marathon next weekend! I'm sooo excited!

  Have you ever eaten seaweed? I found this the other day and just HAD to try it!!
OMG, I took a big bite and seriously gagged!! It was disgusting!! My 14 year old stepson ate half the bag though! Hubby ate quite a bit too! It's just thin sheets, and it tastes like fish and spinach. YUCK!

25 lbs. gone FOREVER!

As of this morning, I have lost 25 lbs!I am SO crazy excited! I don't remember the exact date I started my weight loss journey, It was either May or June. So, it's been a few months. My weight loss has been incredibly slow. There were times when the scale would stay the same, no matter what. If I ran 20 miles and didn't eat anything unhealthy all week, the number stayed the same. It was very frustrating and discouraging.
 But I kept going. I was SO sick of being fat. Nothing in my closet fit anymore, I just felt gross! I knew I had to keep going, because I was never going back again!
 So I kept on. Knowing that if I keep running, keep eating right, the weight HAD to come off! And it has!
Now I'm only 14 lbs. away from my wedding day weight. And that's been 6 years!
My ultimate goal is to lose at least 33 more. I do a strength training dvd every day too, I know that is helping build muscle, and it's so much fun to see muscles I never knew I had!
 I know everyone says this, but it's so true; if I can do it, anyone can! I went from being fat, rarely exercising, couldn't run for 2 minutes without thinking I'm going to die- to finally feeling good about myself, fitting into my clothes again and getting ready to run a half marathon!!
 Don't give up. No matter what. YOU CAN DO IT!! You're worth it!!

I'm new to this blogging thing...

So, here's the truth...I want some followers! I want to know that maybe I'm helping or inspiring someone. I've been thinking why do I only have a few follower's, what do I need to change or do different.
 Then I realized duh, I don't have my blog set up to accept followers! I have so many blonde moments! Last summer I actually was a blonde...
But now I'm back to my natural brunette! Guess we all have those moments, right?
On another note, only 10 more days until my Nashville Womens Half!! I'm so excited!!

10 Miles and stuff

Well, I woke up at 7 a.m., planning on getting an early start...but it was raining, and didn't stop until 9! Now, I don't mind to run in a sprinkle, but this was too much! So, I got a late start, but it was cool, so it was awesome!
 My sweet friend, Charity, ran 5 miles with me. I was so proud of her, that was the longest she'd ever run, and she did it almost all nonstop!
  My new shoes were awesome! It was SO nice to have no blisters and pain-free feet at the end of my run!

This is the road I run on, see the water tower WAY in the distance? Seeing that gives me hope, that's my light at the end of a tunnel, cause that's where my car is! :) I round a corner and see that tower and know I'm almost done!
  2 weeks from now I will have run my half marathon! I know next week I'm supposed to taper off, but I just don't see that happening. I would really like to have at least one more long run, I'd like to do the whole 13 miles. The most I've done so far is 11. So, we'll see what the week brings!
This is my niece and I. We were 'twins' last night, both wearing purple halter tops. Love her!
Tomorrow is my 6 year anniversary with the love of my life. Tonight we're going to a steakhouse, the only time of year I'll eat a steak, or pretty much any meat! Then he has some other surprises planned. I really don't know how I got such an amazing man, but I'm SO thankful!!

New Shoes!

I finally got some new shoes! My other ones were about 3 years old, and gave me blisters, and were quite painful! I wore these around a little bit today, but will officially break them in tomorrow, on my run.
 I hope they love me, half marathon is almost 2 weeks away!!! Ain't they cute?!

Chocolate drizzled something...

If I haven't mentioned it, cooking is my 2nd passion, right behind running! I've ALWAYS loved cooking and baking. I love trying new things (my poor hubby gets to experience all this!). The weirder and crazier a recipe, the more I like it! I try to always cook healthy things, but sometimes ya just gotta break a few of your own rules!
 Which I did making chocolate drizzled strawberry and pound cake kabobs.
Here ya go.

Now, they weren't for me, I made them for a friend who just had a baby. I don't know from experience, but I'm pretty sure new Mom's need lots of chocolate, right?
I admit...I did have one kabob. I had to make sure they tasted ok! But I think my hour long, Slim in 6 strength dvd and my 3 mile run burned it off.
 Just for the record, they were pretty much amazing!!

11 Miles and friendly strangers

This morning's 11 miler was awesome! There was a small breeze, and it was just lightly misting, not a hard rain. It was bliss! At about 5 miles, my hip started hurting real bad, and it didn't stop the whole time. I just pushed through it though, nothing was going to stop me from completing 11 miles!
 As I was running, I passed (yes, I said passed) a guy running. He passed me shortly after that, he wasn't gonna get beat by a girl. But it was still nice for a few minutes! About an hour later, while I'm still running, a truck slows down and it's the same guy. He introduced himself and said he bought me a bottle of water! It was ice cold and pretty much the best thing I've ever tasted. He told me his name was Lance and he said "thank you for inspiring me to keep running." Then he just told me to be careful out there.
 How sweet was that! I just love nice people. :)
Since I am the Google queen, when I got home I googled why my hip might've been hurting during my run. First of all, I think it's because of my shoes. They're probably at least 3 years old, and anytime I run more than 3 miles, I get blisters. :(  I must get new shoes before my Half!
Secondly, it's because when running on the side of the road, on the asphalt, one side slopes down a little bit on the side. So, my right side is a little higher than my left, which would make my right hip hurt! It's strange that didn't happen on my 10 miler last time though.
 Last time after finishing the 10, I didn't think I could possibly do 13. But this time, I thought I believe I can do 13!

Pioneer 5k

Ran this morning. It was a disaster! I spent about 30 minutes driving around the park, looking for the race! Finally found a PO, who pointed me in the right direction. I had gone in the wrong entrance. Some signs would've been nice! So, I got there just in time, and was the very last person who crossed the starting line! That meant I had to run around all the walkers, and then my Garmin foot-pod wasn't syncing, so I had to slow down while I fixed that! On top of that, being sick all week, I haven't been able to run much, so felt pretty weak and still not very good. So I had to walk quite a bit. My time was 37:07. It hasn't been that bad in over a year! Ugh!
 Here I am crossing the finish line!

 On another note, I've now lost almost 25 lbs. Here's a before pic, and an after pic, that I took this morning, before the race! Only 44 lbs to go!
