New shoes and a PR 5k!

Saturday I ran my 20th 5k race!! And it was a PR!

The race was called Stop The Traffic. All the proceeds go towards human trafficking, and helping those girls, a cause I LOVE.
It was COLD. As I was standing out there, waiting to run, I was thinking I'll never run outside in the cold again! I hate this!! Of course I warmed up once I got started. I think it's just something I need to get used to!
My best time so far was 34 minutes. But I've always averaged 36 minutes. So my goal was 33 mins. this time.
I started out a little slow because there were a lot of people on a little dirt road. But once I got passed them, I booked it! For the first time ever, I ran the whole thing nonstop!
I got close to the finish line and could not believe what I saw! The clock said 30:45!! I was in shock! No way had I ran a 5k in under 31 minutes!!
I looked at my Garmin, and sure enough, it said the same thing!
Then I had to check Runkeeper, because I still didn't believe it. Same thing!!
I am still in shock everytime I think about it. I just never thought it was possible! Now I wonder what my time would've been if I hadn't had to slow down on the dirt road. I know what my next goal is- 29 minutes!!
Super duper happy!
I also think my new shoes helped me run faster too! They are Brooks PureFlow. They're minimalist shoes, which I didn't know!
Dang, I have big feet!
I can't describe how nice it was to actually run without the bottoms of my feet hurting and with no blisters and no pain! It was incredible! They felt sooo good!
So, this was an awesome day. 2 milestones in this race: An unbelievable PR and NO walk breaks!!
Again I say, your body can do anything!! Every day, just push yourself a little bit harder. Tell yourself you can do it- and you WILL do it!!

    1. Thanks, Kathy! And I agree, I run faster and better if I'm wearing cute clothes! I'm sure it's a mental thing, but I just can't do sweats and tshirts!
