Good morning! My friend, Laura, at Mommy Run Fast, posted a recap of her year in running, and provided some questions for us to do the same.
Here is my running and race recap of 2012!
Best race experience? I would have to say my first Half Marathon.
When I signed up, I didn't think it was possible for me to ever run
more than a 5k, but I wanted to push myself. So, I followed a training
plan, and I DID IT!! A month later, I ran my 2nd Half. Next year I will
be running 13! (Some virtual)
Best new piece of gear? My Brooks Pure Flow!
This was the first pair of shoes that didn't give me blisters and were comfortable. The first time I wore these, I got a 7 minute PR on my 5k and a 19 minute PR on my half marathon!
Running ups? Same answer in the previous question- getting new PR's!
Running downs? Injuring my foot, and taking a week and a half off. I know that's not a huge amount of time, and I'm very thankful it wasn't longer than that. But it still felt like an eternity to me!
Best piece of running advice you received? There are so many! I guess the most important would be to not compare myself to others. When I read about other bloggers who have 25 minute (or less) 5k's, let that encourage me, not discourage me. And also to remember that not every run will be a good one- and to be okay with that.
Most inspirational runner? There's no way I could choose one. Honestly, it's all of my blogging friends. Reading your blogs encourages me to keep going!
If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be? Awesome. Thrilling. Exciting.
Next year will be even better!
If you've written a recap from the year, let me know, I'd love to read it!

Our recaps are very similar! Lots of good from the year, one little injury, and like you, I really do find inspiration from all the blogs I read. I love that you did your first half this year, and are going for 13- you're awesome! Can't wait to continue following along and see how 2013 works out for you. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura!
DeleteYay! Fun recap! Not comparing yourself to others is VERY good advice! There are a lot of people faster than me but they are all so nice... and it's not really about speed for me (right now) anyway!
ReplyDeleteI did an infographic on my racing rather than a recap. I will probably do a post about my 2012 goals at the end of the year... and how I didn't meet them! ha ha.
Your infographic is the coolest thing ever! I love it! You had an awesome year,21 races is incredible!!
DeleteWhat a great year in running! You had some fantastic PRs! So excited to read about your 13 half marathons in 2013 :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl!
DeleteCongrats on a great year! I hope 2013 is just as awesome for you. You're point about not comparing yourself to others is a great one. It's definitely something I need to continue to work on in 2013.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maureen! It was a great year!
DeleteI love that running advice - SO true!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your year of running!!
Thank you! :)
DeleteCool Stats for the year! I'm hoping my 2013 looks like your 2012!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe. You're doing great too!
DeleteLOVE this!! :) I may have to do it on my blog even though this was a dreadful running year for me! lol...
ReplyDeleteYou should still do it, Z! Just think how much better 2013 will be!
DeleteLove it! Great recap. I might have to check out those shoes..... ;-)
ReplyDeleteThey are awesome, Cinnamon. I highly recommend them! :
DeleteAwesome recap! Great job with everything! Amazing PR's!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Fran!
DeleteWhat a great year you've had, wow! Those are some smokin' PR's. I can totally related to not comparing yourself to other runners, especially in blogger-land. It seems like most other runners who write about it are so fast. I am 37 years old and the mother of two. I consider it a miracle that I'm able to even walk. LOL Okay not really, but I'm proud of my workouts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan! That is something I struggle with daily. Definitely be proud of your workouts, and you will keep getting better and better!
Deleteso glad she did the recap link up, I'm finding lots of fun folks and getting to know them in one post! :) I LOVE long runs that go well too, just that amazing feeling of look what I did!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she did it too. Yes, that's exactly it!
DeleteCongrats on a very exciting 2012 and here's to a great 2013!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Abbi! Yes!!
