Holiday weight gain and a juice fast

Merry Christmas Eve!
The good news...on Saturday my honey and I started and finished our Christmas shopping!
LOVE my new boots!! They can also be turned down, so they're not so tall.

The bad news... I've gained 5 lbs, and it's not even Christmas yet!!
I'm just sickened by it!
The only thing it could be is because I haven't run as many miles per week since I hurt my foot. I'm still running Mon, Wed, and Fri, 3-5 miles each time, and doing my Slim in 6 strength training dvd. But my Saturday runs have only been about 5 miles, and they are normally at least 10. My foot is all better now, but it seems like lately my weekends have been SO busy and I don't have an extra 2.5 hours to run! I want to, I hate that I haven't been able to do it, so I don't feel like I'm making excuses. It's just the way life is at the moment!
My eating has stayed the same, so that's the only reason I can think of for this weight gain. Ugh, it's so depressing.

Have you ever watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead? It's about Joe Cross, who was overweight and unhealthy. He decided to go on a juice fast/cleanse for 60 days. He lost a lot of weight, was able to go off his meds and became healthy. He and a lot of other people who go on a juice fast say the first few days are the hardest, but then they have more energy and feel better than they ever have.
Starting on Wednesday, I'm going to begin this juice fast! I'm only going to do 21 days though.
I see lots of fruits and veggies in my future! I can't wait!!
Have you ever done a juice fast?

Don't forget to sign up for my Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Giveaway! Ends Wednesday!
Merry Christmas!!

  2. Cute boots! I haven't seen the movie, but I'm really familiar with juice fasting and have tried them. Many times. Never lost a pound on them! I've since learned that juice fasting is basically giving your body a bunch of sugar, and any weight lost will be regained once you start eating normally again. Though I keep reading about intermittent fasting being something useful, but with that you only consume water qnd it's for short periods of time. I gained 5 lbs during marathon training (10lbs last time! ) so I'm making some tweaks, like cutting back on all forms of sugar (ha ha...after xmas day, of course ;) and adding extra protein. I really like a Paleo-ish way of eating (no grains for me normally) and have found that it's the easiest way for me to lose fat but keep muscle. This is a good site http://blog.metaboliceffect.com/
Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!! :)

    1. I think the Paleo diet sounds good too. I might do that after my juice fast. I know with any diet you could gain the weight back, if you go back to your normal way of eating. I will check out the site. Merry Christmas to you too, girl! Hope it's wonderful!

  3. I have never tried a juice fast because I have a problem with "drinking" my calories. I can't do it. I would rather eat the fruits and veggies that I would otherwise put in the juicer.
Good Luck with it though and let us know how it goes!!

    1. That will be the hardest part, not being able to chew, and just drinking instead! Joe says when you juice your fruits and veggies, you've already done 75% of the work done in digesting them, since your body has to turn them into juice before digesting them anyway. And the juicer separates the natural fiber (pulp), so your body doesn't have to. So you're getting more nutrients that way. I'll let you know how it goes!

  4. Super cute boots! Don't beet yourself up. I have done the juice fast after I watched the movie. I did an almost 3 month but I did miss chewing so I did just most of the time with eating fruit and veggies. I felt so much better after day 3 of the fast. It was also hard to be in some social situations you can feel like a total outcast.
You can do it. Merry Christmas!! Hugs, Bobbi Jo

    1. Thanks, Bobbi Jo! I know it will be more difficult in social settings, but I guess that's just the price ya gotta pay! I know it'll be worth it. That's amazing that you did 3 months! How much weight did you lose?

  6. I've done several juice fast, but I think my longest was a week. My sister frequently does shorter juice fasts, and she will occasionally do a long juice fast (10 days or longer). I did a four-day juice fast last summer, and it was very helpful.

My sister (who is reading with me) says that you should really research colon cleansing during a juice fast, which they don't talk about in that documentary.

    1. I will research that and find out what I need to do, to keep the colon working! I know that's important!

And I love your boots. I tried some on when I shopped with my husband but didn't find any.

  8. I am sure that once you get your running schedule back those pounds will fall off!! I have gained from all the sweets that I indulged in the past few weeks. With Christmas over and the cookies and candy out of the house, I am one happy girl. I did get on the scale this morning and I too have gained, but it will go back down:)

  10. The last two weeks-- Garrett and I both decided to have a "fuck it" mentality and just enjoy the holidays and all the delicious treats that accompany them. But, I too am now 5 pounds heavier and am over the over-indulging! We will be doing the master cleanse (very similar to a juice cleanse I THINK) once I get the okay from my doctor (I am nursing so I might not be able to do it) Love your boots!

Good luck with your cleanse! I try to do a 10 day juice cleanse every year just to clean up my diet and also as an exercise in self control. :) Let us know how it goes!
