My 21 Day Juice Fast

Good morning, lovely's!

Today is Day #3 of my juice fast! I was excited to get on the scales this morning and see that I've lost 5 lbs. already! (Go here to read about my juice fast)
The first day was really rough. I had a headache all day (possibly from giving up the caffeine), and was SO tired. I mostly just laid around and slept off and on all day!
The 2nd day though, I felt totally normal! Headache was gone and all of my energy was back. This morning I feel great too!
There are SO many juice recipes out there, and I'm having so much fun finding new ones to try!
Celery, carrots, apple, 1/2 lemon and cucumber. Yummy!

2 oranges, 4 carrots, 1/2 beet, 1 apple. YUM! I was really nervous about the beet, but it was actually good!

Cranberries, orange, apple, spinach and romaine lettuce.
Disgusting! I won't be making this one again. I believe it was the lettuce that ruined it.
I haven't felt hungry at all, I just WANT to chew on something! Several times I've almost grabbed something to eat, not even thinking about it. But I stop myself just in time!
I juice 2-3 times a day, I have some chicken broth once a day (heated up with salt and pepper), and then I also bought some juice from the store, but I make sure it's 100% juice, with no sugar. And I drink a lot of water!
So far it's going great! I'm not really looking forward to New Year's Eve though. We're having some friends over, and I know there will be some yummy food. But I'll stay strong!
As far as working out, I haven't done any form of exercise in almost a week!! They say that you can still exercise and even run while on this fast. My excuse is that J has been off work all week, and my boys are home on Christmas vacation, so that has just thrown off my exercise schedule!
I would love NOTHING more than to go for a 15 mile run right now. (I know, you thought I was going to say icecream, didn't you?! Surprisingly, I haven't had any icecream cravings yet, which is shocking!!)
But...it looks like this outside right now! Which is still no excuse, I know. I believe I'll just get on the lovely treadmill today, instead!

So, there's my juicy recap for the first couple days! ;)
Have a fabulous weekend!!

  4. You are doing great! I made a juice with cranberries too and it was not very tasty, maybe it is the cranberries??? Some of my juices didn't look that tasty but they were. I love juicing beets, that is about the only way I have them..wel, except when I make chocolate beet cupcakes :) Hang in there!

    1. Thanks, Mattie! I didn't even think that it could've been the cranberries! Most of the juices look pretty gross, but do taste good. Chocolate beet cupcakes?? I've never even heard of that!! Sounds...interesting! ;)

  5. That beet juice looks amazing!! I adore beets and get excited when I find them used as a natural sweetner in foods. That's exciting you're having such fantastic results already. I'm sure the it's strange not to chew anything, I wonder if gum would provide any satisfaction. Stay strong with your friends coming over, it will be worth it.

PS - Today was the first day I've ran in almost a week. You'll do great when you get a chance to get back out there!

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth! They actually say you can still run and workout while juice fasting! I had to find that out right away, cause I'm not giving that up! I haven't done any long runs, just 3 miles, and I was fine.

  10. Wow Katie, Great going.Am planning a 21 day detox / fast from the 1st (dont think I can stay strong on 31st). But its going to be a mix of steamed veggies and juices. The thought of only liquid diet is a bit scary right now, may be in the near furute!
I am going to come back to this page and pick up some juice recipes when am on my detox, keep blogging and writing about it, its very motivating.
Wish you and Family a very Happy New Year!!

  16. Good post! I did a 60 day juice fast and now about 7 months later am doing it again. This time I won't be as strict and allow organic chicken broth, home made almond nut milk, pure juices from the health food store, and kombucha. So far day 11 and about 12 pounds lost. http://www.rebootwithjoe.com is a highly recommended site that has a lot of information on juicing and peer support.
