Foodie Pen Pal Reveal!

Hey Friends!! It's that time again...Foodie Reveal Day!

My awesome package was from the lovely Monica Rodriguez.
Here's what I got:
Sweet & Salty HOMEMADE pumpkin seeds. I love pumpkin seeds...and so do my boys. So they went quickly! Whole wheat bagels, 3 pieces of Quench gum, Buddy Fruits drink.
Never had this before, it was DEELISH!

A Kind bar (love them!),  Pink Pineapple Funky Monkey fruit snacks. This is freeze dried fruit, which was so good, will definitely be buying these again!
 A small apple cinnamon candle. I LOVE candles! 2 drinks that I had after my runs. Avena Light Oat-based smoothie and Silk Pure Almond Dark Chocolate. Loved them both!
 And then, probably my favorite thing, Belgian Chocolate on a stick! That was just heaven on  a stick! Monica said I could add it to milk or water for hot chocolate, but I just couldn't do that, I ate it like a lollipop! Amazing.

Endorphin Warrior Bracelet Review and Giveaway!!

I'm so excited about this giveaway! As I was reading some other blogs, I read about this company, Endorphin Warrior. I checked out their website, and I love their products and their mission!
 They make training bracelets, t-shirts, jewelry and more! 
Eric agreed to send me a training bracelet of my choice, with an inspirational word engraved on it. What I love about them is they are made with a soft, flexible, natural leather, made to withstand sweat and they are lightweight. The words are engraved on a nickel plated tag, which means no rust or tarnishing! 


  It was hard to choose a word I wanted, because all of them would fit so well with my running and my races- and even in everyday life! Some other words they have are Unbreakable, Relentless, Conquer, Strength, Focus, and so much more! 
   I finally decided on Persevere. Persevere means: "to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly." 

I will definitely be wearing my bracelet during my races and every day, just another reminder to Persevere- it will be worth it! I love my bracelet and will definitely be getting another one.

Thanksgiving and shopping!

Good Monday Morning to ya!! I hope you had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

 Personally, I'm glad Monday is here! I had 2 Thanksgivings and lots of leftovers, and my body is not too happy with me! I wouldn't say I overdid it, but I did eat more than I normally do. It sure was delicious though!

 I hate that stuffed feeling you get after eating too much, and I experienced that a couple times! That feeling just brought back memories from when I used to feel stuffed from eating too much all the time. It's miserable, and I will never go back!
 I did run 5 miles on Thursday, for a total of 14 for the week. Which is not good, since I usually run 25.

But, today is a new day and I'm back to eating healthy, running and strength training!

 For the first time in 5 years, even though I swore I would never do it again...I went Black Friday shopping. My bff, Christie, talked me into it! We went from 11 pm-4 am, Thursday night. We went to a couple places, but Kohl's was my jackpot! I got a LOT of clothes (including some running clothes!) for over half off! We only had to stand in the check out line for an hour and a half. That was crazy! But, at least we were together, so that made it much easier!
I had a great experience! Everyone was actually really friendly, I didn't see any fights or any of that stuff! ;)
I also liked going at that time, rather than waking up at 5 am and shopping all day. So, I think this will become a tradition for us...something I NEVER thought I'd say!!

  Last night I put up our Christmas tree! For some reason, this is something I always do alone. My honey carry's all the boxes up for me, but then he just likes to watch me decorate! And my boys have no interest in hanging ornaments either. Maybe it's a teenager thing!

Krave Jerky Review and Giveaway!!


The awesome folks at Krave Jerky sent me 5 bags of this deliciousness!!

About that medal I won...

They made a mistake!!! I was not supposed to get the age group medal for the turkey trot!! 

When my Twinnie texted me, letting me know I had won, I thought surely it must be a mistake. My time was 30:25, but I just knew I couldn't have been the fastest in my age group! But still, I thought just maybe!!
 Sure enough, last night I looked at the results, and I came in 7th, not 1st!!

Yea, mistakes happen, but arghhh!! Do they have to happen to me??

Yes, I'm pouting.
I sent them an email, but no one has replied. I feel so bad for the actual winner! I can't imagine how she feels, knowing she should've received the medal, but didn't!
What a mess!

Oh well, next year I WILL WIN A MEDAL!

Turkey Trot 5k recap with my Twinnie!

This morning I ran a Turkey Trot 5k, with my twin sister. This was her first race!
My sweet boy ran with me too. 
This was one of the HILLIEST courses I've ever ran! It seemed like as soon as one hill ended, there was another one! This was my 12th 5k race of the year (not counting my 2 Half's), and my goal was to get a sub 30!! I don't care if it was 29:59! But alas, it was not meant to be. :(
 My 'unofficial' time was 30:24. Extremely disappointed. I was thinking of every step I took, remembering every time I slowed down a little bit, and beating myself up for not pushing myself a little harder!!
  But I LOVED being there for my Twinnie. I was SO proud of her!! This is a pic I took of her when she crossed the finish line. 

Can't you just see the pure joy on her face? Priceless! I told her that is a moment she will never forget. You never forget your first race! And now she's hooked! She said why didn't she start running years ago? She had no idea she would love it so much!

  After the race, I decided to leave. I don't usually stick around for the awards, no need to really.
Well, Twinnie texted me a few minutes after I left and said "look what you won!"
NO FREAKIN WAY!! Apparently I got first place in my age group! I still don't believe it, so can't wait till they post the results so I can see for myself! :)
 But she went up and got it for me. She should've just let them take her picture with it, no one would've ever known! (We are identical)
 So, that definitely made me feel better about my time. I know next year I will get a sub 30!! No doubt about it!
  After that I went to this awesome new park I found and ran 10 more miles.
It was a perfect, beautiful day!
And then... I did this.
Yes, yes I did. I deserve it, right? I will never give up my FROYO!!

I've begged asked Twinnie to write a guest post for me about her first race. I know she's learned a lot during her Couch-2-5k training and has a lot of knowledge! But I need to do a little more begging convincing, because she says she's not a writer. But she also used to say she wasn't a runner, and look at her now!!! She's a runner!

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

I have to share with you this AMAZING pumpkin pie smoothie recipe!!
My friend, Rachel, at Two Healthy Plates created this yumminess!


Here's her recipe!

WW Points:
Meal: Breakfast, Snack, Dessert
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • ½ cup fat-free vanilla yogurt
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk OR ½ cup skim milk
  • ½ banana, frozen
  • ½ cup pumpkin
  • ⅛ tsp pumpkin pie spice, to taste
  • ⅛ tsp cinnamon, to taste
  • baby spinach (optional)
Instructions
  1. Put all ingredients in blender and blend until well mixed.
  2. Enjoy!
I used the pumpkin from when I cooked it here, and also added some ice and a little stevia to sweeten it up a little bit. I think this will be my new breakfast for awhile! Thanks, Rachel!

Weekend Fun!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!
I ran 10 miles on Saturday. My ankle was still sore from where my shoe rubbed it raw during my half marathon. So...I wore my Father in law's shoes!
I know I looked like I had clown feet, but since they were a little big, they didn't rub against my ankle (as bad as my shoes would've). They are definitely not long distance running shoes, so my feet were really hurting by mile 10. I had planned on 13. But, I'm very thankful at least I got 10 miles in! 

  This weekend a new park near me opened!! It's kind of hard to tell from the picture, but there is an area called the Egg Lawn. It's just an egg shaped path, that I can't wait to run on! This place connects 4 different parks, and it's HUGE! My honey and I can't wait to go hiking there and find all the trails!

Last, but not least!! My family celebrated my twinnie's and my birthday!


Can you tell us apart? No one else can either! Even family member's still call us by the wrong names!!
 On Saturday she will be running her FIRST 5k!! I'm so proud of her and can't wait to run with her!!

Where has my marathon mojo gone?

As you know, I've been training for a marathon. I'm currently on week 4. 
I've been looking off and on for the ideal 'first' marathon. But honestly, part of me has just been dreading it. I wanted to run a marathon because I felt like I should. That's the next step, after a Half, right? But I don't think my heart has really been in it. Maybe that's why I haven't signed up for one yet.
  Last night I was searching yet again, for a marathon to run. And I just thought, you know what? I don't really want to do this! So, I said ok, I'm not going to run a marathon.
 I turned off the computer and immediately felt huge relief. I felt like all this pressure lifted off of me. 
But then here it comes...guilt!! 
 I should WANT to run a marathon! That's what good runners do. They go all the way, they push themselves to the max and don't stop at halfway! Maybe I'm not a 'real' runner since I don't have a desire to run 26.2 miles.
I'm not burnt out on running, I love it, my life would not be complete without running! It brings me joy! I love my long runs, the longest I've run is 13 miles, I want to run even longer, I want to get even faster!

So, why do I all of a sudden feel like I don't want to run a marathon?  I don't know!

I decided I'll just say "not right now". Maybe next Fall. Maybe I just need more time. Maybe I'll change my mind about it.
 In the meantime, I'll keep lacing up my shoes and giving it my all. And I'll never forget how I felt when I ran for one entire mile, without stopping. At that moment I knew there was hope. I was no longer the fat girl, I was now an athlete. 
 Running one mile was when I became a real runner, not 26.2.

Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon Recap!!

Saturday I ran my 2nd Half Marathon!! 
Ready to get started!!
It was a chilly morning, not even 40 degrees. I got to the start line about 30 minutes early, but found an open building nearby where other runners were hanging out, trying to stay warm- so I joined them!
  Then it was finally time to run! The race started out with clear skies. I knew there was a chance of rain, but it didn't really look like that was going to happen.
I ran nonstop for 5 miles. I didn't look at my Garmin at all, for some reason I didn't really want to know my pace, I just wanted to keep on going, based on how I felt.
 There were 2 really big hills, but I ran up both of them! I knew if I walked, it would be harder to start running again. Once those hills were over, around mile 6, I heard someone beside me saying it was all easy from there on out. That was GOOD to hear!
 I brought some Clif Shot bloks with me. I was so glad I did, I feel that they gave me some good energy! Although they are a little difficult to chew.
Hard to read, but it says 1:17, already 9 minutes faster than last time!

  Around mile 7, I met a super sweet girl, and we ran together for the next 3 miles. We talked the whole time, and it helped me SO much! I was actually surprised I didn't stop and walk the whole time, but it's because talking to her kept my mind off of it, and I couldn't listen to my brain telling me I needed to walk. It was wonderful! This was her 10th Half! We exchanged phone numbers and plan on running together again. 
  During the time I was running with her, it started POURING. I've never ran in rain like that! The most I've run in is a light rain. But it was raining hard! I was so glad I wore my hat. It was literally dripping off the bill. It was crazy! A lot of the runners said it was sleeting or hailing, but I never felt that. 
 It rained the rest of the race, although not that hard!
  
  My last Half Marathon was finished in 2:43. I  knew I would do better this time, but I was guessing it would be 2:35, although I was praying for 2:30!
  When I got to mile 11, I knew I was doing even better than I thought! My shoes and clothes were soaked, but I gave everything I had for that last mile! At that time I could tell my shoe was rubbing the back of my ankle raw! I was so disappointed, because I didn't think my new Brooks would do that! But I'm thinking it may have been because they were soaking wet and my sock must have slid down, and just that constant friction caused it. 
Sorry if this grosses you out!!
Then I start to hear the cheering crowd and some guy with a microphone encouraging everyone, letting us know we were almost there!! 
 And I cross the finish line in 2:25!!! I was SO ecstatic!! My honey and Jonah were there at the finish line.
I beat my time by 18 minutes!! I was shocked!

I was absolutely chilled to the BONE though! It was so cold and rainy. I had teeth chattering and shaking and everything! I finally warmed up after a long, super hot shower!
  It was a wonderful race though. And I'm so thankful for April, who I believe helped me get that huge PR! 
 I'm telling you, I have never met nicer people than I have in this running community. I am SO incredibly thankful for all you, my friends. For all your encouragement and support. You all mean the world to me!!

Half Marathon tomorrow!

Happy Friday! Tomorrow I'll be running my 2nd Half Marathon! I'm SO excited. Thankfully, I'm not as nervous as I was for my first one!
 Tonight my honey and I are staying at The Galt House. I've never been there, and I can't wait!
With this as my beautiful view!


My time at my last Half was 2:43, so my goal for tomorrow is 2:30. I'll let you all know how it goes!!

Scales, measurements and stuff

A few days ago I was complaining that my weight loss was SO slow and hadn't  seemed to move in months! I've always heard that you shouldn't weigh yourself everyday, but I admit, I'm a daily weigh-er! So, some mornings I'm excited, other mornings I'm depressed! I let the scales have control over my day! But still in a way, I felt like it kept me accountable too.
 Well, a few days ago I was having one of those depressed mornings. How is it possible that I can run 25+ miles a week, do a strength training dvd 4 days a week, and the stupid scale not even move an ounce?! I eat healthy, some days probably too few calories. I do have icecream once a week though. But even still, I should be losing weight!

 Then I remembered I hadn't taken my measurements in a long time. So I took them again.
  I saw that in the last 3 months I've lost 10 lbs (terrible), and 13.5 inches!! 5 from my waist, and 4 from my hips! The others from my arms and thighs. I'm so excited about that!

 So, new experiment... I will not weigh again until Dec. 1. I've never gone that long without weighing, but I'm just going to try it! I would love to lose 10 lbs this month and some more inches!


I decided to take a random picture of my legs, just to see my progress. I didn't realize they look MASSIVE!! I don't want man legs! Lol! But I'm very grateful these legs help me run!
 

Speaking of running, 2 more days until my 2nd Half Marathon! I'm so excited! The weather will be perfect, and I'm going to PR! My time will be 2:30 or less. There, I just had to put that in writing for you all to see!
