14 Mile Treadmill Run and 5 by the 5th Virtual Race

Good Monday Morning!!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I sure did!
Saturday I had planned on running 18 miles outside, but Friday night we had a winter storm warning advisory, and were supposed to be getting a lot of snow, so I wasn't sure how that would work out, but one way or another I knew I had to get my 18 miles done!
When I woke up, it looked like this outside!
I know I could've ran outside, but I love doing things that my head says are 'impossible', so I decided to do all those miles on the treadmill! The most I've ran on the tm was 8 miles, so I wasn't sure if this could even happen!
I decided to split it up, do 6, take a break, 6 more, break, and than the last 6.
So I ran 6, stopped about 5 minutes, drank some water and ate a GU. Then did another 6. After that I decided to just suck it up and go outside. I needed a change of pace!
So I bundled up and headed out! I ran 4 outside, then came back inside and did the last 2 on the treadmill.
I forgot to take a pic at 14! Also the time restarted after 77 minutes.
When it was all done, I had completed 18 miles, 14 of them on the treadmill! It honestly wasn't too bad at all! I watched the documentary "Hungry for Change" while I ran, and it was excellent!
I decided to use this run for my 5 by the 5th Virtual Race Series, that Laura, at Mommy Run Fast created.

We had a Superbowl party last night and I knew most of the food would not be healthy. Including what I was making! Snickers Popcorn! It was amazing! I was glad I had ran 18 miles the day before, so I could take ONE bite of this stuff!
Ok, I had more than 1 bite, but not much more!
I also made this amazing fruit bowl.
I ate a lot of this!
I love that when you're out of the habit of eating junk and crap, you don't really even crave that stuff anymore! I actually wanted this fruit more than I did the sweets!

Today I will be packing and packing. Can't wait to get away from this COLD weather and get to the Bahamas!!

Did you run this weekend?
Do you find that your body craves GOOD food more than it does bad food?

  2. Proud of you! I want some of that snickers popcorn! But the fruit salad looks SO delicious! I'm jealous! I'd have done the same, two or three bites of the popcorn and then eat the fruit bowl!

  3. Wow! Nice job on the 'mill! I've never done more than 8 on it. I had to end my run early this weekend and walk the rest due to an ITB flare :( I totally crave healthy foods after runs especially. You're so right, once the junk is out the cravings are for the good stuff, but for me it'sooo easy to slide back onto the junk wagon :) I'm currently trying to nix the sugar... again! That popcorn looks way too good I had to look away ;)

    1. It is SO easy to slip back into eating junk. It's a daily struggle, for sure! But so worth it.

  4. That is awesome how you made sure to get them done even if they had to be on the treadmill! I got a run in last night on mine but 4.25 is no where near 14!!!

I do not crave good food more than bad yet....I hope one day that will change :)

    1. 4.25 is awesome, girl! Don't downplay that! I do still crave icecream...all the time. I doubt that will ever change!

  5. Awesome job running 18 miles this weekend! That was a good idea mixing it up and breaking the run into segments. I might have to try this for my next treadmill run. I can't seem to run longer than 3 miles on the treadmill and would almost always opt for running outside.

I'm starting to crave good food more than bad food, too. I definitely splurged yesterday, but didn't feel great after so it's double incentive to keep up with healthy eating.

    1. Thanks, Lori! I don't know if I could've done it if I didn't break it up into segments! I do still splurge sometimes too. The way I feel afterwards though, is never worth it, and it reminds me why I'm eating healthy! I feel so much better!

  7. I haven't run more than 5.5 on the treadmill, and I thought that was boring and brutal! Watching TV would be a great way to distract yourself and pass the time. Great idea! Running in the snow looks beautiful but painful. It's hard for me to breathe in the cold when I run, and it hurts my lungs! Good for you, I ran 4.85 today and you put me to shame. :)

  8. 14 miles on a treadmill sounds like torture, so I am not surprised that you had to go outside for a bit. Regardless, I am just impressed.

You are a badass for running 14 miles on a treadmill. I'd be jumping off every few minutes to run around the building or something to keep my sanity!

  11. I think the longest I've gone on a treadmill was 13 miles. Definitely needed a movie to get me through that. :) Both of those treats look so delicious!! Especially that fruit salad. :) Have a splendid time on your cruise!! I think you leave today, don't you?
