3 Things Thursday! Snakes and other things!

I am linking up with Myranda, at Pretty Living for Three Things Thursday!
Today's three things are: 3 things people would be surprised to know about you.
Here are mine!

1. I hate sports. I'd rather watch paint dry or grass grow. Since I'm so tall, people have always asked me if I play basketball, I've never even had a desire to play.

2. I have 6 sisters and 2 brothers, and my Mom had ALL of us at home! Yep, she's my hero.

3. About 10 years ago I was startled awake at 2 am by a loud CRASH in my bedroom. I quickly sat up and saw this HUGE snake slithering across my dresser. The crash was perfume bottles and other things being knocked over. I'm not talking about a little garden snake, y'all. I'm talking about a 6 FOOT LONG, FAT SNAKE. I am not kidding. This is exactly what it looked like.
I froze and didn't know what to do. I grabbed my phone and called Jeremy (this was before we were married). He told me to go sleep on the couch, and stuff a blanket under the door so it couldn't get out. It was a few hours before I could fall back to sleep, but I finally did. I woke up at 6 to get ready for work, and guess what the first thing I saw was, when I opened my eyes? That snake. He had escaped my bedroom, and was now in the living room, just a few feet from me!
I got out of there as fast as I could. J and a couple other guy friends came over later to catch it, and it was nowhere to be found or seen again. I lived in the country, with a field in the backyard, so I guess it came from there. I moved a couple weeks after that. That was the most terrifying time of my life!

Tell me 3 things about you!

  2. Oh my goodness! I am so scared of snakes too! Occasionally I'll run over a small one with the lawn mower and I can't even look at it even though it is dead! Never had one in my house though! I don't think I could have stayed the night in the house! Your mom is my hero too! 8 kids all at home? Wow!
Thanks so much for linking up!

  4. Whoa big family!! My dad is a sibling of a pretty big family and it was great for the grand kids growing up :) Family get togethers were always huge events!
I grew up in the country too and frequently saw snakes and once there was a big black garden snake in the rag drawer in the kitchen. Never saw my mom move so fast!!

    1. I've always loved being in a big family. We all get together once a week too, it's awesome! Ohhh, I can't imagine opening a drawer and finding a big snake, not sure I would survive that!

  5. OMG, I will probably have nightmares from that snake story. We have lived on a little farm in the country almost my entire life and snakes are the only thing I've ever been afraid of. They seem to come from nowhere!

Wow, your mom is quite the lady to have 8 kids all at home. No wonder she's your hero!

    1. I know I didn't sleep very good for awhile. Especially since no one ever caught it! They do seem to come from nowhere, it seems like you don't see it, until it's right in front of you!!
      Yes, she is pretty amazing!

  6. 3 things about me:
    1) I live on a big farm and, as far as I know, we have never had a snake in the house.

    2) I ran track and cross country in high school and college and then never ran again until I was 41 years old.

    3) I was the world's oldest college student for 3 years! I went back to college to change careers 3 yrs ago and graduated in December, at age 50, as the Valedictorian!!

    1. That's wonderful that you've never had a snake in your house, since you live on a farm!
Was it easier for you to get back into running since you'd done it in your past? Or did it still feel like starting all over?
I think that's awesome that you went back to school, no matter the age! And were even the Valedictorian! What a huge accomplishment!!

  7. 3 things about me!

    1) I have two favorite football teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, but I do not watch the sport or it's games!

    2) I have an unhealthy addiction to circus peanuts. I seriously love them. I could eat them all day, every day.

    3) I cannot watch The Lion King the full way through. I have to scene skip through the middle of the movie. From the start of the stampede to the part where Simba meets Timon and Pumba. I watched it once as a child and it forever scarred me.

Good luck tomorrow on your first "real" half marathon! I've ran virtual ones too, but I still have yet to run one with a start/finish line!
