When One Door Closes...Look For Another One

Happy Friday!

Let's start with some disappointing news, shall we?
I told you guys how I got the job of my dreams, to be a Spin instructor. Yesterday I received an email saying it was not going to work out. Here's the whole story.
My spin class is at a huge church in Louisville. Their policy is that you have to be a member of their church to volunteer. BUT how it's worded says you have to be a member only if you work with children or elderly. (Which makes no sense to me) So it doesn't say you have to be a member for other positions.
That is why the manager said I could do it!
I received an email from her yesterday just saying "we need our volunteers to be members".

Is that crazy, or is it just me?? I am a member of a church, just not that church. I would be volunteering my time to teach these classes, with 20,000 members, no one would know I'm not one! I've had SO many people tell me they would start coming when I teach. I could've made them a lot of business (money)!
 I just do not understand.

But, I will not give up on this dream. I guess that just means now I need to pay $350 to get Spin certified and go find a gym to hire me!

How about some happy news! Monday I start my Chicago Marathon training!! I am SO excited! I've realized I do so much better when I have a plan to stick to. I'm running for the Ronald McDonald House, check out my fundraising page

Now for some random pics...
I only had 1 daycare kiddo yesterday, so to the pool we went!

What are you doing this weekend??

  1. Boo about the church thing... God will open another door for you to share your amazing talents! :)

I start my marathon training on Monday as well! :) What plan are you following?!

I have the Dam to Dam 20K tomorrow! It's on my one year anniversary of my weight loss journey and lifestyle change! Such a huge accomplishment for me! I'm already tearing up just thinking about it...

I'm nervous about it! But I know I can do this!

    1. I'm so excited we're going to be training together!! Carie, I am so proud of you. It's so impressive that you've lost weight, kept it off for a year and are now a super fast runner! Wow! You are my inspiration chicka!
Can't wait to hear about your race!

  2. That stinks...and really does not make sense! The local recreation center I go to uses Fitour, so I was able to get certified for less than $100 to teach spin.

Congrats on the marathon training! I originally said I would never run a full marathon, just half marathons. However, my thinking is slowly changing :)

    1. I had never heard of Fitour, but just checked it out. That's a lot cheaper than what I had been looking at! I think I'll get certified through them instead. Thank you!!
I used to say the same thing, but after doing half's I just wanted to see if I really could do more, and I could. You can too!! :)

  5. I think that's crazy that you have to be a member...truly a silly rule. I'm sure something else will come up though.

  7. How bizarre! But I agree - go do it on your own, now! :) You will still get those people to come, just wherever you end up! :)

  8. That is disappointing, but it is true -- not getting this position will keep you available for something better in the pipeline! Would you consider becoming a member of that church?

    1. That's right, I'll try to remember that. I guess I could become a member, and just not attend!
