Beginning Chicago Marathon Training and Surrey Bikes

Hello friends! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

I am SO excited because today was Day #1 of my Chicago Marathon Training! For my first marathon I used the Runkeeper marathon training plan, and loved it so much, that I'm using it again. I do make one change to the plan. They only have you run up to 16 miles at the most, that is just crazy to me, I think you need a couple 20 miler's in there! So towards the end I do an 18 and two 20's.
Today was a 4 mile run.
Yesterday we got together with Jeremy's family, to celebrate his sister's birthday. Here is all of us!
We all met at a coffee shop, played some games and hung out for awhile.
Then the birthday girl wanted to go downtown to the waterfront and ride Surrey Bikes!
We rented 3 of them and started out for an adventure!
Peepaw looks a little scared!

Charley LOVED it!

We passed a man walking his huge turtle!
Not sure what I'm doing...

I don't know what he found on my phone,
but apparently I thought it was funny!

We had a great time! I am so thankful for such a wonderful, fun crazay family!!

QOTD: Have you been on a Surrey Bike?
What's something fun you did this weekend?

    1. I looked at several different plans, and liked Runkeeper the most. I'm doing the Beginner to Marathon plan. It's for first timers, but it works for me!

  4. When is the Chicago Marathon? I'm signing up for the Houston in January and I need to figure out how far in advance I should start training. I'm running weekyl 5Ks now just to keep up my cardio but I haven't done a long run in months.

I've used RunKeeper app to track my distance, pace and time. The GPS in my neighborhood isn't great, but that's no fault of RunKeeper's! So I bought a Garmin watch to track that. I did the Bridge 2 10K when I was training for a relay. I think it's B210K for Android or iPhone. I liked it, but I'm looking for a new training plan for this marathon.

    1. It's Oct. 13. I think this plan is 16 weeks. I haven't done a long run since my last marathon, in April! I can't wait to get back to it! You should check out the Runkeeper plan. Or of course the Galloway one we talked about. Can't wait to hear how it works for you!

  8. I am starting training today too for my first marathon - the Chicago Marathon. I am really nervous but I can do all things through Christ. I rode one of those bike things on the Boardwalk in Virginia Beach. Do you change your eating at all when you start training?

    1. That's awesome!! Yes, you can. I quote that verse all the time! :)
I actually don't change my diet at all. I always try to eat healthy (except for ice cream ;)), so really don't change a thing!

  9. I love the giant turtle! Adorable!

I rode one of those bikes with too many people jammed on it, and it was so difficult to pedal and not fall off. I think it would be fun with the right number of people, though.

  12. Happy training! I feel more confident when I run higher mileage before a marathon as well. I also tried 16-mile max long runs, and it gets in your head during the marathon. Even if your legs aren't tired, your head tells them they are at 17+ because you've never run that far during training.
