Yesterday I took my daycare kiddos and my boys to a Wildlife Educational Center. (Game farm, mini zoo)
Here's a few pics from our trip!
We saw this MASSIVE turtle, he weighed 200 lbs!
It might be crazy, but I feel so bad for all of these animals being caged and locked up. I know it's good for kids to see animals that otherwise they would never see, but I still hate it! This turtle doesn't have any room to walk around, he just leans against the glass. (I cropped the pic, so his cage is bigger than what you can see here.) The only movement you could see were his eyeballs and his tongue!
This is a wildcat. See that dirt area in front of the gate? He paces back and forth- nonstop, all day.
Then we saw a bald eagle, with his wings clipped. All he could do was sit on the branch and look at us.
This just makes me sad for them! I know, I know I'm strange. ;)
With everything that has been going on with me lately, I have decided to find a Nutritionist. I received wonderful advice from everyone, and you all agreed that I eat way too few calories. I've only been eating 8-900 calories a day, plus running and other exercise. Honestly, I was surprised to see that I was eating that little. It was not done on purpose!
Kim sent me a link to this YouTube video, and it really opened my eyes!! I realize now that my body has adjusted to the low caloric intake and the high calorie burn- and it has just stopped burning fat, my body is holding onto it, thinking that it's starving. Years of yo yo dieting and not eating enough has really messed me up. I hate that I've done that to myself.
But, every day is a new day and I'm going to start treating my body right and loving myself again. I'm a (huge) work in progress, but I am determined to get there and hopefully be able to help others who are or who have been in this boat!
On my facebook page I asked for recommendations on a Nutritionist. I am just at a loss as to what to eat! I really feel like I need a menu, a plan. I received so much advice on great Nutritionists, and was told about a couple books that I will be getting this weekend; "Intuitive Eating" and "It starts with food".
I will get this body going again, and will start treating it right. I'll be healthy mentally and physically, just the way God created me to be!

Good luck with everything! The photos look super fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteI feel awful when I see animals locked up like that too. Sigh. I have a deep love for animals (hence the veganism).
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding a nutritionist! I am happy to hear you are looking in to one! And I have heard Intuitive Eating is helpful for a lot of people!
Thanks girl!
DeleteI think you are taking a step in the right direction! oh us silly girls...why must we struggle in this area of our life so much?!?
ReplyDeleteI know it, Michelle!! Why, oh why?!
DeleteMy endocrinologist suggested that I see a nutritionist about 10 years ago. I looked to find the closest one and who also accepted my insurance. Only to see a female nutritionist that was about 300 pounds!!! Ummmmm I never went back!! Search for recommendations!!! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteNo way!! That is ridiculous. That makes no sense whatsoever!
DeleteCheck out Laura at MommyRunFast.com , she is a health and a run coach. From reading her blog is very knowledgeable and always looking to learn more. Also comes off really nice.
ReplyDeleteI love Laura! I have actually already contacted her, and I think I'm going to go with her. Thanks Dee!
DeleteYay! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks girlie! :)
DeleteI am a major animal lover, so that makes me really sad too. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're taking a step in the right direction! We are all works in progress. That's why we have each other! :)
Yes, that's exactly right! :)
DeleteSo glad that you are taking proactive steps towards bettering your health! :) Proud of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carie Loo!
DeleteSounds like a step in the right direction!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think this will get me where I want to be!
DeleteYAY!!! SO glad to hear you are taking this step!! You are so right- you need to be eating more! I have a hard time re-wiring my brain to eat enough.....because the 'less food + more weight loss' is what we all think of all the time, but it's really so very far from the truth!! That's one thing that I have loved learning about as I'm studying for my CPT exam.....I am learning so much!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard re-wiring our brain to think the right way. I've thought that way my whole life (eat less, weight less), so it's hard to stop thinking that way! Hopefully with the help of a nutritionist I can change that! Why are you studying for CPT? For your job?
DeleteI don't think you're strange at all for feeling bad about those animals. They are treating so poorly, and it really is very sad. :(
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding a nutritionist!
Yes, it is sad. :( Thanks Clarinda!
DeleteI just started following your blog. I honestly can't remember how I stubbled across your blog. But I can tell you that losing weight and running are both difficult. I'll save you the long story, but I wanted you to know that you look great. Just remember to look back from time to time to see how far you've come.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I do pretty often look back at my 'before' pictures and think about how far I have come. That definitely motivates me to never go back there!
DeleteJust so you know, that type of turtle hardly moves in the wild, it waits for prey to come to it. Therefore it's tank is really sufficient. I've read lots of research about zoo animals and other animals kept in captivity. It's really not as bad as you think. Just wanted to give you an animal scientist's point of view.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the nutritionist thing. See you Thursday!
Oh, that does make me feel better. I thought his tank was just too small, and he couldn't even move! Thanks girl! Can't wait to run with you!
DeleteI just started following across your blog this afternoon! I recently started my journey of beginning to run & was looking for blog inspiration for my journey! I looked at getting a nutritionist as well and found some good info at this blog by a running dietician, http://dietitianontherun.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie, so glad you found me! I will definitely check out that link! :)
DeleteI have been through the same thing of eating very little and working out too much, I reached a point where I was tired all the time..so I went to a personal trainer in my gym who started with increasing my calorie intake by 200 calories every 2 weeks till I reached a decent calorie count...I was so paranoid initially but trust me it helped, I did not put on weight instead I managed to increase my workout intensity, good luck with your nutritionist jounery :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that worked for you, that gives me hope! Thanks Tanvee!
