15 Mile Run and The Fast Metabolism Diet

Hello, my friends!

This was a lovely weekend! The temps have cooled down a bit, which has made it absolutely perfect running weather!
I ran 15 miles on Saturday. When I woke up I realized it was raining! For a brief second I considered doing it all on the treadmill, but my lovely Facebook and Instagram friends convinced me that running in the rain was fun! And they were right.
It rained hard a few times while I was running, once I stopped under a shelter. But it didn't last long. Most of the time it was just a light mist, which felt amazing.
Couldn't pass up the pretty blue flower. :)
As I've shared before, I have been talking with Laura, a health coach. I really needed some kind of food plan I can follow, and I need some way to fix my screwed up metabolism. I realized I had only been eating 800-900 calories a day, plus running on top of that. And I still wasn't losing weight, in fact I had gained 10 lbs.! She recommended a plan called The Fast Metabolism Diet

I've been reading the book this weekend, and it sounds like this was made for me! The author says that if you're overweight and have spent a lifetime of dieting, the very thing you thought was helping you, has actually been hurting you. Long term chronic dieting cools down your metabolism. The less you eat, the more your metabolism cools, and the less you will be able to eat tomorrow. That's precisely why some people can't lose weight, even though they eat very little. (Me) Their metabolic flame has died out and they can't get it lit again. When your metabolism is too slow, you'll even store lettuce as fat! When you don't provide your body fuel from food, it will 'eat' your muscles for the essential fuel it needs. (Why can't it just eat the fat? Lol)
All of this totally describes me, and I'm learning so much!
Thankfully, there is hope! This is a 7 day plan that you follow for 4 weeks. There are 3 phases.
Phase 1 (Mon-Tue): Lots of (healthy) carbs and fruits
Phase 2 (Wed-Thu): Lots of proteins and veggies
Phase 3 (Fri-Sun): All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils.

She lists the exact food you can eat, along with recipes and meal plans.
I'm so excited, and ready to get my metabolism going again so I can lose the rest of this weight!

Of course I had to have ice cream one last time though. I don't remember ever going without it for 28 days, that will be the hardest part about this! But I know it'll be worth it.

What did you do this weekend?

Photo dump and a small rant.

Happy Friday, Friends!!

I thought today I would just dump some of my photos from the week on you!

Let's start with a couple of my runs this week. I did 3 miles at the track on Wednesday and 4 last night. Saturday will be my 15 mile long run. Am I crazy because I SO look forward to my long runs? I think it's just something only runners can understand!
Everyone takes pictures of themselves after their runs, no?
Sweatfest!

The very kind Mr Barton is helping me with speedwork. He's an awesome running coach and his overflowing medal rack puts my 4 little medals to shame! But we all start somewhere.
I'm going to try my best to be a good student...but he has been warned!
My notes

I was so excited about winning this awesome giveaway from the lovely Kim, at Barking Mad About Running. My 13 year old stepson asked me to save the 26.2 sticker for him, because he wants to put it on his car someday. That's my boy!!

Rare photo of me in non-workout clothes!

And now, because I know you want to see the latest photo of my precious nephew!
Oh, my heart! It's just not fair that he's 8 hours away!
In other unrelated news...how the heck can Mrs. Weiner stay with him?? I'm all about forgiveness and second chances, but after this many times, and she just keeps standing by him and smiling and taking this abuse...COME ON!! I think it's appalling. She doesn't deserve that and I think it's sad that she thinks she does.
Rant over.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Shakespeare and a 14 Mile Treadmill Run!

Yes, you read that right... I ran 14 miles on the lovely treadmill!
I know people call it the dreadmill, but I actually like it! I have a big fan blowing on me, I watched a couple movies, and before I knew it, 14 miles was done! This coming Saturday my long run will be 15 miles, and if it's unbearably hot outside, my treadmill and I will become best friends, yet again!
Saturday night my twinnie and I and our hubby's went to see Shakespeare in the Park.We saw Taming the Shrew.

Isn't my twinnie gorg??
It was a fun date night, although the play was just meh. The actors were excellent, it was all high schoolers, and they did an outstanding job. But I guess I'm not a huge Shakespeare fan. All of the 'thee's' and 'thou's' and 'shalt's', etc...made it very hard to understand!

And last but not least...I like getting my hair highlighted every summer. So that's what I did today!

QOTD: Are you a Shakespeare fan?
Do you like changing your hair color/style too?

Sweet New Nephew and the Eisenbahn Trail

Good morning, my friends!

Last week was the most relaxing, peaceful week I've had in a long time. I drove 8 hours to Wisconsin to spend the week with my sister, her hubby and their adorable new baby boy, Rainor!
Just to warn you, there might be a lot of baby pics in this post!

I spent most of my time loving on and cuddling with him.

I want him!!
He is the sweetest baby in the world. I am in love with him!
Such a sweet family

Bath Baby!
When I wasn't holding the baby, eating dark chocolate and reading my Runner's magazine...
I did manage to go for a run! The Eisenbahn Trail is right outside their front door (well, just a very short walk away). I'm so jealous! This is a 25 mile trail, that used to be a railroad corridor.

I only ran 3 miles on it, but it was awesome! I also found out they have a marathon on the trail every Spring. You know I'll be running that next year!
This was the end result of that hot, muggy run!

This was a week I didn't want to end. Sometimes you just need a break from normal life!
Ok, ok, one more picture. :)
He's got his Mama's big lips. Precious!
How was your week? Tell me something you did!

New Baby and More News

Happy Friday, my friends!!

My little sister had her first baby on Wednesday! She and her hubby live in Wisconsin, so I haven't been able to see him yet, other than in pictures. He is the cutest thing in the world. I'm in love!!
Next week I'll be driving up there to spend a few days with them. I can't wait!! My goal is to not shed one tear! (Where she can see me anyway!)

A couple weeks ago I was talking about needing a nutritionist. I got lots of ideas and recommendations. (Thank you!) I have been followings Laura's blog at Mommy Run Fast for a long time and I remembered that she was a health coach. I contacted her and we are going to be working together! I'm so excited! I will be sure to share all of the things I learn!

Am I the only weird one who gets excited when I see another car with my sticker? Thankfully my husby doesn't get embarrassed easily when I wave and give them the thumbs up!! (He just rolls his eyes)

One more thing...
I signed up to volunteer at the Dirty Girl mud run, in August! I'm sure it would be a lot of fun to participate in too! I can't wait!

I'll be gone next week, but when I get back I will be sure to overload you with lots of adorable baby pics!!

I don't believe in that stuff!

The Great Buffalo Chase 5k Recap

Happy Friday!!
I hope you all had a great 4th of July! It rained ALL day long, so all of the fireworks shows around here were cancelled. So, we just sat on the front porch and watched fireworks with our neighbors.

A couple weeks ago, my friend Julie, told me about a race she was running on the 4th called the Great Buffalo Chase. It takes place at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is the oldest continuously operating distillery in America and has been making legendary bourbon whiskey for over 200 years!
She also said it was a flat course, which sounded perfect for reaching my goal of running a sub 30 5k.

Before the race started it was POURING rain. I was not very excited about running in that! Julie and I sat in the car for awhile and by the time we were ready to run, it was only sprinkling. And it continued to do that throughout the whole race, which felt really nice!
The course was so cool!! It was very interesting to run while smelling the bourbon. It smelled so good!
Unfortunately, I didn't make my goal...again. My unofficial time was 32:34. UGH. And it was even a flat course! I just can't figure this thing out! I kind of felt like this was my last chance, because I'm not doing anymore 5 k's- at least not until the fall. I guess that gives me all summer to do some speed work!

The day before this race I met Amy through Facebook, and found out she was running this too! I love meeting new people, especially others who share my passion of running! I was really hoping I'd be able to find her with all the people there. About halfway through the race I heard someone calling my name and it was her! We chatted and ran together a couple minutes. She has 4 kiddos and has lost 50 lbs.! Talk about an inspiration! Check out her website here.
It was a fun race, that I'll definitely be running again! And next time, no doubt about it, I WILL get that sub 30!!!!!

The next race on my calendar is the Columbus Half Marathon August 11! Is anyone else running that one?

Have a splendid day!!
