Missed it again...Indatus 5k Recap

I can't believe it's already July 1!! Less than 6 months until Christmas. (You're welcome)

My goal for a LONG time has been to run a sub 30 5k. I tried here and missed it by 29 seconds!! Well, Saturday I tried again. I ran the Indatus 5k in Louisville.
It was a nice race, around 350 people. The only thing I didn't like was at the finish line all they had was water. No bananas, nothing!!

The race was at Iroquois Park, which is known for it's hills. Knowing that, I was still going to give it my all and try to reach my goal anyway.
But, it wasn't meant to be...again.
My splits were 9:53, 11:08 and 10:40. I hate that, but it is what it is! I will say, there were a lot of hills. But I don't want to make excuses.

I'm going to try again on the 4th of July. I'm going to run the Great Buffalo Chase 5k. My friend Julie and her hubby are going to run it too. Hopefully having someone fast to run with will help!
I also need to get back into doing speed work. I'm going to do that tonight.

I am determined to do this and nothing will stop me!!

How was your weekend?

  3. Yes! Find a flat 5K! Amd a pacer should help :) Stay out of the Olmsted designed parks! LOL! He does that with all of them (that I have been to, anyway)! I ran that one when I was in Louisville 2 years ago and DANG was it hilly! Did you visit the water park after? Hee hee.

    1. Why the heck would Olmstead design parks with so many hills?? Haha
I sure wanted to visit the water park. Or any random pool of water would've been fine too!

  5. The bonus is, you are getting out there and trying! You will get it! My first 5k was last year and 40minutes on a hilly trail run. My next 5k is on July 13th and I would love to PR and get under 36 minutes! (Major goal this year is to get under 33min on a training run)

  6. No worries! You will get there!! Look at how close you are:) The heat and humidity have been so so bad in Maryland. Just my normal running has really slowed down. The air even in the early morning can be so heavy!!

    1. Yes, I'm surprised at how much of a difference there is in running in the heat! Maybe this means in the fall I'll be at a 28 min 5k. ;)

  9. Katie... Be proud of yourself .. Iriquois is pretty but is a very HILLY course... I inquired about the Buffulo Trace run on the 4th and it is relatively flat... I haven't gotten to run that one but have always wanted to... I haven't been able to run cause I rolled my ankle & am now in a boot.. Won't be able to run at all for another 4 wks... I wanted to tell you that you really inspire me... When I get back to running would love to get to run with you sometime...

  11. Great try! The sub 30 will be yours in no time! That's so crazy about the race only having water at the finish line. What a let down!

  12. That's it Katie - just keep plugging away at it!

  13. You'll get there, Katie! I have no doubts. There were hills, and I'm venturing to bet it was quite warm too. Just keep plugging away, doing some speed work, and by Fall you'll be speedy. :-) Well, at least that's my plan. :-)

  14. You are doing great. It is so much harder to PR in the summer because it is so stinking hot!
