Last long run before Chicago!!

I really cannot believe that in less than 3 weeks I will be running the Chicago Marathon! It just seems so unreal!
Honestly, my training this time around has been horrible! I usually always get my long runs in on Saturday's, but during the week they're NOT what they're supposed to be! Lately I've been running once or twice during the week, maybe a total of 6-7 miles. That's so embarrassing to admit.
I absolutely adore running, but life just seems so busy and I really haven't been making it a priority. I hate that! I think subconsciously I also have it in my mind that I've ran a marathon before, so I'm good. That's terrible, don't follow my example! :)

Saturday I ran 20 miles. It was wonderful!! The weather was so perfect. It was one of those times I felt like I could've ran forever.
I got started around 8 am. It had rained all night and even as I was driving to the park, it was raining. But right when I got there and ready to start, the rain stopped. Yay! I was going to run in the rain if I had to, but I'm glad I didn't have to.

I took a couple GU's with me and some powerade and lots of water. I carry my handheld water bottle with me, but go past my car a few times during my run, so I always stop and refill.
I felt SO good! The last few miles were a little tiring, but not too bad at all. It's amazing how the weather effects me. I remember the last 20 miler I did a few weeks ago, it was incredibly hot and I was only able to do 15 outside (finished up on my treadmill), and seriously thought I would pass out. But this time I could've done a full marathon. It was cool, with a nice breeze.

The only bad thing was my phone decided to go crazy on me. Stupid Siri kept interrupting my music, then it would start randomly calling people. It was awful! Because of all that craziness, the battery died way too soon. I ran the last 6 miles with no music. Talk about torture!!

I was a little sore afterwards, but not bad at all. I try not to get down about my pace. But to be honest, I hate it. Hate it!! I really hope I'm faster than that in Chicago. I would love to finish in under 5 hours.

Saturday night I relaxed by our first fire of the season. So relaxing.
Yesterday was my cute stepson's 14th birthday, so we went to Mammaw's for cake and ice cream.

And then finally this cutie patootie. My sister (who lives in WI) sent this picture of Rainor after his bath. If I need a laugh, I just look at this. After Chicago I'm going to stay with them a couple days. I can't wait!
Do you ever feel like you need a weekend to relax from your weekend? Yea, that's how I feel.

I only have a few more weeks to bug you guys about this (thank God! I HATE asking for money), but I am still over $600 away from reaching my goal of $1000 for the Ronald McDonald Charity House, whom I will be running for. Please help! Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Hi Katie! I wish you the BEST of RUNS for your marathon. I live in WI, in Milwaukee only 90 miles north of your marathon. So I'll definitely have you in my thoughts during your run. :D

    1. My sister lives in West Bend, not sure how far that is from you. But I might not be too far from you, when I go visit her. Thank you so much, Marion!

  4. Awesome!!!!! Great job on the 20 miles.

My 26.2 training really gets off the ground in a few weeks after my 13.1 on 10/12.... I've already done one full-marathon but was undertrained for it and my longest run was 16....I fell apart around 18 during the race. You're going to do great if you're already doing 20 and still functioning. LOL

    1. Thanks friend! I do feel like I'm ready. I've heard that Chicago is a flat course, which will make it even better!

  7. Weather makes a HUGE difference on how you feel during a run. I'd take a 20 miler in cooler temps over a 10miler in the heat & humidity ANY day! :) Nice work!! So glad to hear you had a good run!! You're going to have a blast in Chicago!

  10. I totally get the "life getting in the way of running" thing. I'm struggling with it right now, but I'm sure I'll get out of my funk soon :) Cooler weather always helps!

  13. 20 miles ! you are amazing! I always get down on myself for my low weekly mileage but you know what. sometimes life happens. Dont sweat those small runs you are getting your long runs in and you are going to kill it at the marathon!
