Vegas, baby!!

Yep, I'm going to Las Vegas!!
Not long ago Clarinda posted about doing the Tri States Marathon, her first marathon in 10 YEARS! She asked if anyone wanted to join her. I immediately thought I DO!!
Why? First of all, because I would get to meet her. (She's so sweet!!) Secondly, because this is the only marathon in the US that goes through 3 states. Utah, Arizona and Nevada. (I've never been to any of those states) How cool is that! Oh, and it's a mostly downhill course too. That helps.
The race is Dec. 7, of course I have to go a couple days early too. I can't wait!!
This means I'll be running the Chicago marathon in Oct., and less than 2 months later the Tri States marathon. Yea, baby!!

I have not done any running so far this week. I will be doing 5 miles tonight though for Laura's Fall 5 and 10 virtual race series. I am seriously slacking on my marathon training plan for some reason! But I have 5 Saturday's left until Chicago, so I have all my long runs planned out. This week will be 19. (Although I'm sure I'll just make it an even 20)

Last night I went to Jonah's football game. I sat there, at the very track I run at, wishing so bad I could just take off on some sprints! Or even run the bleachers. Of course I knew I couldn't but it sure did cross my mind!
QOTD:
Have you been Vegas? Anyone else running the Tri States?

  3. I've been to Vegas on the way to a desert research center in the Mojave desert. So I've been to Vegas to go grocery shopping and stock up on a week's worth of food. I don't think that counts!

  4. I hope to someday do the marathon or half (probably the half) in Vegas that takes place at night in the dark!
If you like things like the multiple states, you will have to someday come up here to Michigan to run our Detroit marathon or half marathon. Michigan has a border with Canada so our marathon goes between two COUNTRIES!! It's International!! In Detroit, the border is crossed either over the Ambassador Bridge or the Windsor Tunnel. For the marathon, the course goes into Canada over the bridge and comes back through the tunnel. Both the half and full follow the same first 12 miles and both go into Canada and back.
You really did get bitten by the marathon bug!!

  6. I LOVE Vegas! I also love the idea of running in three states during a marathon (and it being mostly downhill).

  7. Although I haven't ran this race, I have heard great thing about it from a lot of my friends who do run it. I live in Utah, and used to live in St. George (where the race starts). It's actually a beautiful desert course, especially when you get to the Virgin canyon. A tip, it can get crazy windy when running through the canyon, it won't affect ya too much because your going downhill, but if you have a few headwinds, lean into them (head down) in it, and that will help you push through if they get too crazy! There is some pretty good uphill too, but with all the downhill you'll seriously welcome all the uphill you can get:)!!! Good luck, I look forward reading your post after you run it! You'll love running in this part of the country! I've been to Vegas more times than I can count, but its fun each time. It will give ya lots and lots of walking around to help work out those sore legs the days after the race:) - cheers -

  8. Ah! I hadn't heard about this marathon, but now I really want to run it!! Running through three states sounds AWESOME!! Unfortunately, I already signed up for the Memphis Marathon on the same day (I have family in Memphis). Bummer! Oh yeah, I live in Vegas, so let me know if you need suggestions, etc.

    1. Hi there! I'm Clarinda. I live in Vegas, too - and am always looking for new running partners. Let me know if you're ever interested in meeting up for a training run, despite our different marathons the same weekend. lol :)
