Wisconsin, Cows & more Froyo

Last night I got to go running with a girl I haven't ran with before. In fact, she's never ran before. She asked me to show her how it's done!
 So we downloaded the Couch 2 5k app, and started with that. It was awesome being there at the start of her journey- that I remember so well. This program has you walk for 90 seconds, and run for 90 seconds. And I SO remember when I started out, being out of breath, barely making it the full 90 seconds, at the end of it, feeling like you just ran a marathon.
 She asked me if this was how I started, I said yes. I told her someday she could run a marathon too, to which she replied "in my dreams!"  We're going to start running together once a week, I'm so excited for her!!

After my Chicago Marathon I went to Wisconsin to visit my sister, her hubby and my precious, sweet, adorable nephew Rainor. I just cannot get enough of his adorableness!

While I was there we went to a dairy farm to get some raw milk from their grass fed organic cows. I had never tried raw milk before and it was delicious!
Grilled sweet potatoes, steak and green beans.
Thanking them for the steak the night before.
(And apologizing too, of course. I can't help it.)

The calves started licking my brothers knee, and I have never seen him laugh so hard! Anytime I need cheering up, I just look at these pictures!




 My brother and I went to the Eisenbahn trail for a 3 mile run. For the first time ever, he ran a full mile nonstop. So proud of my little bro!!


















I had an awesome time, it was the perfect way to recover from a bad marathon!
Mid sneeze!!






Orange Leaf just happened to be next to the gas station where I was filling up, on my way home. Totally a coincidence. Really.
 My BIL said I should change the name of my blog to "From ice cream to marathon, and back to ice cream."
 Haha! He's so funny.

  1. I have never had raw milk! But I watched a documentary about it and I would LOVE to try some! I live in Iowa! You'd think I would've found some by now! :)

    And since I live in Iowa, we don't have things like Orange Leaf! I have to buy my froyo from the store. I really like the Ben & Jerry's froyo, Half Baked! Which is Chocolate & Vanilla Low Fat Frozen Yogurts with Fudgey Brownies & Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! SOOOO delicious! It's only 720 calories for the whole pint, versus the normal Half Baked "ice cream", which is 1,120 calories! It's a shame that it's so darn expensive!

    1. I am surprised you've never had raw milk! I'm wondering if I can find a place to get it here in KY.
      Oh you poor thing. Ok, I could never move to IA. I couldn't live without it! I've never tried B&J's froyo! That is definitely on my list now!

      Good news! We have Orange Leaf here in Iowa! Quite a few of them, actually! Haha! But the closest one to me is an hour away! HAHA! Next time I go into the city, I am going to have some! I am SOOO excited!!!

  2. I have never had raw mile and have never had fo yo. I love me some coldstone though. It's YUMMY!

  3. Seriously Katie...you ran a marathon...so can it really be that "bad" of one...you still finished and accomplished something to be proud of!!!!

  4. Looks like a fun time! I have to say that I have never had raw milk before!! My favorite froyo is vanilla with strawberries! Yummy!!!

  5. In the old days on the farm we used to wake up, milk the cows and then have breakfast …. ahhhh the good old days ;-)

  6. I have never had raw milk but I grew up drinking Goat's milk and have never been able to get used to the flavour of Cow's milk. With Froyo, I tend to stick to the neutral flavour so that I can add lots of choclatey toppings. That pumpkin and cheesecake sounds delish though, I would def try that one.

  8. what a great way to recover from a marathon!
    I didn't have milk that wasn't straight from the barn (we had our own cow) until I was 13........I have a hard time drinking the store bought stuff! :)
    my favorite froyo flavors are either peanut butter or coffee!

  9. I really liked the caramel fro yo I had in Chicago. Around here we have those self serve fro yo places where you make it yourself and they weigh it and charge by the ounce. It's a good thing the closest one is 45 minutes away in a town I am not in that often! I like to get a combination of vanilla and cake batter and smother it in caramel!
    I don't drink milk. I don't like the look of it or the smell of it either. When I cook with it I have to hold my breath while I pour it into a measure cup.

  11. I'm glad you had such a great visit with your family in Wisconsin - your nephew is precious!! I don't drink milk hardly - I've had an occassional chocolate milk post-half/long run, but that's about it. I haven't had fro yo in forever! We used to go all the time, and now I think we must be burned out on it. My favorite is cake batter though - YUM!
