A cold Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We had Jeremy's family's Thanksgiving yesterday, and then Saturday we'll have my family's. Only 7 of us with his fam, but my fam will probably be about 50! Huge difference! My family's Thanksgiving is the one I have to be careful not to overeat at! We all love desserts, and we have more desserts than we do regular food! (See, my ice cream addiction is hereditary!)
My MIL just had surgery a few days ago, so this was a very low key Thanksgiving!

Yesterday morning I got to run with the darling Dawn again! We did a 5 mile Turkey Trot. It was 17 degrees, so it was bitter cold. I wore 2 shirts, a jacket, leggings, shorts, hat, gloves and earmuffs. Once I started running, I wasn't cold at all! Funny how that happens. I actually started wishing I had only worn 1 shirt, instead of 2.
Don't you love her hat!! Someone even wanted a pic taken with her!

Notice anything funny about this pic?
My unofficial time was 52 minutes. Which I am SO happy about!! That means a little over 10 min. miles!!

This was an awesome race. Of course Iroquois Park is known for its crazy hills, and there were a lot of them! After most races, a lot of them just have water and bananas. But this one had tons of food! Hot cider (which was sooo good),  chocolate milk, cups of trail mix, huge muffins, oranges and bananas. It was great!

My 100 mile training buddy Mark, ran the race too. He did GREAT. Super proud of him!
Dawn is coming back to Louisville in January, and we're going to find a 5k to do, and she's going to get me to the sub 30 that I can't seem to get. I can't wait!

This was a great race and I'm glad I got to run it with some amazing friends!

I also want to say I am so incredibly thankful for all of you. Thank you more than I can say for your emails and messages and words of encouragement during this time that I'm going through. You all are a huge blessing in my life.

Did you run or do a Turkey Trot? Tell me about it!
How many Thanksgivings do you go to?

Running in the cold!

Good Morning, friends!

I've taken a little break from blogging because my life is a mess right now. I'm not feeling all peppy and chipper and didn't want any negativity coming across here. I want to encourage and inspire people, not bring you down. But this is real life. Life is not always wonderful. Sometimes it's hard. Very hard.
I'm still in that hard place. I still don't have the answers or know what I'm going to do.
But I know God has a plan for me and I'm trying to hold onto that.

I miss blogging. I miss YOU.
Now let's talk about running!!

Sunday afternoon I was scheduled to run 15 miles. It was 27 degrees, so I couldn't decide if I should run outside or stick to the treadmill. The most I've done on the tm is 18, so you know I love it!
A lot of things came crashing down on me Sunday, and I knew I had to get out of the house, no matter the temperature. So I went outside for my run. I wore my leggings, shorts on top of that, a short sleeve shirt, jacket on top of that. Gloves, hat and earmuffs! I stayed very warm, didn't get cold at all!

I ended up only being able to do 10, but it was wonderful! I really don't know what I would do if I didn't have my running!
My next race is a 5 mile turkey trot Thanksgiving morning! And...it's going to be 19 degrees! I might be regretting that decision already.
8 more days until I leave for Las Vegas to run the Tri States Marathon with Clarinda. I am SO looking forward to that! It'll be nice to get away from the cold and the snow for a few days.

                                                          Happy Thanksgiving!

What have you guys been up to? Tell me something good!!
Who else is doing a Turkey Trot?

The latest on me

Hey friends,

I am going to take a couple weeks break from blogging. I'm going through a difficult time right now and just need to breath. And run.
I'll be back. Love you guys!

You can still find me on facebook.

5 Things Friday!

It's been awhile since I've done this, so here are 5 things happening in my world!

1. My precious nephew Rainor, is in town from Wisconsin. We have a big wedding coming up tomorrow, so he didn't want to miss it! I just cannot get enough of this snuggly doll!

2. The big wedding coming up? My amazing brother Dustin, and his beautiful Sydney are getting married tomorrow. We adore her and are so happy to have another sister!

3. Soooo....I like trying new (weird) things. My Mom and I were having a conversation about hair. She told me she used to put mayonnaise on hers when she was younger, and that it made it very soft and shiny. I thought "hmmm...something I've never tried!"
So I had to try it. She also said she used to straighten her hair with an iron! Just a regular iron! I will not be trying that though.
It was definitely very strange putting mayo in my hair. The smell was a little overwhelming too. Yuck.

Sorry about the bathroom mirror selfie!!
But I'm happy with the end result! My hair is really soft, and doesn't smell like mayo.  :)

4. I am on week 2 of my 100 mile ultra training. So far, so good! My 2 runs during the week haven't been what they're supposed to be though. I was supposed to do 5 and 6 miles, but both days only did 3. I know as long as I get my long runs in on Saturday and Sunday, I'll be ok. Tomorrow afternoon I'll be running 12 miles. I'm SO looking forward to that!

5. Well...that's about all I got!

QOTD:
What are you doing this weekend?
Have you ever used mayo as a hair treatment?

My first trail run

I really can't believe I've never ran a trail before! It was absolutely amazing.
Saturday morning I woke up early to meet Mark, who is running the 100 mile ultra with me, and a couple other people, to run a trail at Capitol View Park, in Frankfort. We decided we would do 5 miles.
 It was absolutely gorgeous!

As you can tell by the frost on the ground, it was pretty chilly! But once we got to running, I warmed up and felt great. Trail running is so different than road running. On the road I want to run as long as possible, and sometimes feel guilty for needing to walk. I'm constantly looking at my garmin, to make sure my pace is good. It's also easy to just listen to my music and zone out.

Trail running is a whole new adventure. Being surrounded by nature, seeing deer just feet from us, hearing the birds start to wake up, it's all just incredible. I'm not focused on pace. It's peaceful and relaxing. It feels like you're escaping from the world.

Having great company for this run made it an even better experience. It was nice following behind someone, letting him run into the cobwebs so I don't have to, letting him fall over the roots in the ground, so I know to avoid it, letting him take the blame for getting us lost. It was awesome!! Ok, we didn't really get lost, maybe just a wrong turn. :)

Coming out of the woods to see our capitol was pretty sweet!
I can see how trail running is addictive. I can't wait to do it again!

Have you ran a trail before? Did you love it?

Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon Recap

Yesterday I ran half marathon #6.
This was my 2nd half last year, and the weather was horrible! Thankfully, it was perfect this time. Before the race I got to meet Dawn, who is just the cutest thing ever. This was her 16th half THIS YEAR! I also got to run with Amy again, which was awesome. This was her first half.

We stayed warm in the lobby of the Galt House for awhile, before heading out to the race. I just love having friends to run races with. It makes such a difference!
It was a little windy! I really regretted not wearing a headband!
And then at 8:30, we were off! After my disastrous Chicago marathon stomach issues, I had decided I was not going to drink any gatorade, and not as much water either.
That really worked well for me. I had no problems at all, I felt great the whole time! I took an Island Boost at mile 5 and then a GU at mile 10.
My time last year was 2:25, so I was really hoping to PR and beat that time. But I ended up with 2:28. At least it's under 2:30, so I am very happy with that!!

These girls did awesome too! They both beat me.

Beer always tastes better after a race!
Today I am extremely sore, and am having a hard time even walking! I believe it's because I did my first ever trail run on Saturday. 5 miles of trails, and then a half the next day, makes for sore legs. But I better get used to it because I'm going to be doing a LOT of this in preparation for my 100 miler in April!
I'll share more about my trail run tomorrow!

Half #6 and some other random stuff

Happy Friday, beautiful people!!

It's been a few days, so let me catch you up on me. I know I'm so interesting and you're just dying to know! Right??

Anyway. This was my first full week of 100 mile ultra training. I run on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. I didn't get in all the miles I was supposed to, but this week will be much better!

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I have days where I'm barely hanging on. Yesterday was that day. I was able to get outside for a 3 mile run, and it was glorious. Just me and Daughtry.

Here's the lowdown on my hair. It is crazy thick. And I love doing new things to it, so it's pretty damaged too. The other day I saw a curling iron while I was out shopping and thought hey, something I haven't tried before! So I bought it. And...this happened.
Yea, that was fun. How the heck do people use these things? I'll just stick to my straightener from now on!

Sunday I'll be running the LSC half marathon. It'll be half #6. I can't wait! The morning temp is supposed to be 28, so I'm not looking forward to that. I detest cold weather!
I ran this race last year and it rained and sleeted the whole time. It was pretty miserable. I'm thankful this time it'll be sunny. I somehow got an 18 minute PR and finished in 2:25. I'm hoping I can beat that time again!

I'm feeling sorry for Charlie today. Doesn't he look pitiful? He got neutered yesterday so has to wear this thing so he doesn't lick himself and cause an infection...ewwww.

What are you doing this weekend?
Have you used a curling iron before?

Biggest Loser 5k Recap

On Saturday I got to run the Biggest Loser 5k, in Lexington at the Kentucky Horse Park. It was a beautiful race.
I wasn't able to pick up my packet until Saturday morning, so I got there bright and early. Well, early, but not bright!

I had the option of doing either a 5k or the 15k. I decided to just do the 5k, because I had to rush home afterwards and get ready for race #2. Also, all year I've been trying to get a sub 30 5k, so this was another chance to do that.
It was a cold morning!

Francelina and Dan
Dan was the perfect host for this race. He's funny and really knows how to get things going. And he's so cute too! He has lost so much weight and has kept it off. Super inspiring!
I  got to meet Coach Mo! He's as sweet as can be. And lives in Louisville too!

Let's go!!
The race was great. The first mile was on the grass, which was interesting. But the last 2 miles were on the pavement.
My official time was 30:51. Disappointed again. I'm going to keep trying though, and next year I will get it!
I did get 4th place in my AG, so was happy about that!

Then I headed home, showered and changed and headed out to do a beer run with Julie!
Julie, the Wonder Woman!
The park was gorgeous! It was fun sampling different beers along the course. Lots of fun. :)

I really saw this guy just walking down the path with that knife!! Creepy!
After the run, we all sat around at the picnic tables and listened to some live music. That was a fun, relaxing run. No time, no pressure, just FUN!

  Did you run this weekend?

Disclaimer: I received a free race entry from the Biggest Loser, in exchange for blogging about my experience. All opinions are my own.

Training, races and runs!

Happy Friday everyone!

What a week it has been! I started my 100 mile ultra training. I love having a plan and a schedule to follow. It really helps me to stay motivated, rather than just doing it on my own with no plan! I'll be running 4 days a week, with long runs both Saturday and Sunday. This should be fun!!
Tomorrow morning I'll be doing the Biggest Loser 5k, in Lexington. Another chance to get that sub 30. Yes, I will try like heck!! And then in the afternoon I will be doing another run, but will be keeping that one a secret, as to not offend the offendable. 2 races in one day!

5 more weeks until Marathon #3! I never ever would've thought I'd be running 1 marathon, let alone 3 marathons in one year!! I'm SO excited about flying to Las Vegas and getting to hang out with Clarinda all weekend. I've never been there before, so I'm really looking forward to it!! I may just never come back...

Tonight I have about 30 people squeezing into my house to celebrate my Mom's birthday, so I better get to cleaning and cooking.

Have a fabo weekend, my friends!!

What are you doing this weekend?
Have you been to Las Vegas?
