20 mile track run

Yes, you read that right. Saturday I ran 20 miles here!
And I still have my sanity!
I was supposed to run 31 miles on Saturday, and I decided to do it at the track. Why? Because I knew it would be almost mentally impossible. And I knew doing that would help me to be a little more prepared to run 100 miles in April.

Well, at almost mile 20, a couple guys came up there and were acting creepy. I ignored them for awhile, but then just started to feel uneasy. I was the only one there, and I also didn't have my mace with me. (I lost it and haven't bought more yet) So, I decided to head home and do the remaining 11 there.
I felt like a big chicken. Like maybe I should just ignore them. I mean they weren't bothering me, just watching me, but I felt weird! And, you're always supposed to follow your instincts, right? Especially when it comes to safety.

So, I came home and ran 2 more miles, but by then I had just lost my mojo. :(
I was disappointed it didn't go as planned, but I do know when it's 3 a.m., and I'm on mile 65 (or whatever), and don't know if I can go on, I can look back on that time I ran 80 laps around a track. And I'll tell myself if I can do that, I can finish this ultra!
I ended up with 22 miles. My time was 4:10, average pace 11:22.

Have you guy's heard of the spicy yogurt roasted cauliflower? I found the recipe here. I made it yesterday.
Yea, I am NOT a fan! I think it definitely has potential though. The 'crust' just had an overload of spices. It was too much. I might try it again sometime, and just change the spices. I'm thinking the 'awesome blossom' sauce from Outback Steakhouse would be deelish on it! I'll just have to figure out how to make it low fat.

What did you do this weekend?

Ultra Training Update

Congrats to Jen at Dare, Run, Share for winning my Color Run giveaway! I so bad wish everyone could've won! But remember, you can use this code to get $5 off your registration. COLOR5OFF

This is week 15 of my ultra marathon training. It's so hard to believe I only have 10 weeks left! It'll be here before I know it. I am SO excited. I feel like as much as I'm training physically for it, I'm also mentally preparing for it. It's still hard to fathom running for 30 hours straight. But I have no doubt that I'm going to do it. It's not even a question in my mind.
In 4 weeks I'll be going to the same trail and will run 50 miles on it. That'll be good preparation!
Below is a pic of my training plan. As you can see, I'm not getting in as much mileage as I should be. That is not good. But I'm going to keep trying!
A friend of mine gave me this book, and I am now reading through it for the 3rd time! Relentless, Forward Progress, by Bryon Powell. It is SO good.

Saturday I ran 14 miles on my treadmill. Hopefully the last long run on that thing! This weekend is supposed to be nice and warm, perfect to run 31 miles.
Last night's 3 mile run outside was amazing! It sure felt good to be outside again.

Remember this. No matter how hard it gets, just take one step at a time, one day at a time. Just keep on going.
Yes, I'm talking to myself.

Do you have a good 'running' book you can recommend? (Not necessarily on ultra's.)

Spills and scarves

As I'm sitting here, I'm watching Hoda and Kathie Lee (even though Kathy Lee annoys me to NO END), and they're getting ready to do a segment on how to fall without hurting yourself. They're going to have a 'professional stumbler' on. Do what? I didn't know such a person existed!
If only this had been on 2 days ago, maybe I could've been a little more graceful when I fell.

Thankfully, I had just finished my 3 mile run. I actually tripped over my front steps, as I was running back into the house! My little daycare girl was SO sweet. She was very concerned. :)

In other news, Saturday I ran 15 miles on my treadmill. This Saturday I'll be doing another long run on my tm, but then after that it's going to start warming up, just in time for my 31 miler. I just don't think I could do that indoors!
A few days ago I won an awesome prize from Kim. It's a scarf organizer. You have no idea how badly I needed this!! Here is my before and after. I love it!
Hope you all are having a fabulous week!!

Tell me about a fall you've had! (You know, so I don't feel so clumsy!)

The Color Run Giveaway!

A year and a half ago I ran The Color Run 5k , also known as "the happiest 5k on the planet", with my now sister in law, Sydney.
I had never ran a race like this, so wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew we would have a blast!
This isn't a timed race, it's all about having fun and getting as colorful as possible. And we did!!

I love what the race organizers have done with the race this year. They're calling it the Kaleidoscope Tour. It's going to be awesome! New t-shirts, headbands, wristbands and sling bags for everyone who registers.
Check out if the Kaleidoscope Tour is coming to a city near you here!
You can also save $5 to any city's race by using code COLOR5OFF

And here's some awesome news!! I have a free entry to giveaway! Enter below.

National Wear Red Day!

Although I've heard of this day, this is my first time participating in the National Wear Red Day.

For 11 years, the first Friday in February, the American Heart Association has been encouraging everyone to wear red and raise awareness of this silent killer.
Research has shown that Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, and has killed more woman then men. It is more deadly than all cancers combined.

Both of my grandparents, Papa Bear and Mimi, died of heart disease. Although they were both perfectly healthy through their late 60's. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware and be reminded to know the risks and take action to lead healthier lives!

Be a survivor so you can be there for your family!

3 Things Thursday

1. I just recently tried Honey Stinger gels for the first time. Oh. My. Gosh. They are deelish. The bad thing is, I haven't even tried them during a run yet, because they're so good I eat them like candy! I normally use GU's during my runs, but I think I've found a new favorite.

2. Cauliflower Quinoa Cakes Fail
I love cooking, and I love trying new, healthy things. So when I found this recipe, I thought it sounded great! Yea, well...mine didn't turn out quite like hers.
The taste wasn't terrible, but I only took a few bites, and threw it all away. I posted about it on my facebook page, and after talking to Sue, realized that I probably didn't drain the cauliflower enough, and it was too watery. They should've been more of a cake like consistency and they seemed more like pancakes. I don't think I'll be making these again anyway.

3. The kids are out of school AGAIN! This weather has just been crazy. On top of all the snow, we got ice a couple days ago. Why can't it be this beautiful, AND be warm?? Haha!

Don't forget that tomorrow is National Wear Red Day! Clarinda, from Enjoying the Course and I are co-hosting a little linky party to celebrate - Wear Red Selfies. Be sure and stop back by tomorrow to share your selfie and why you're wearing red. For more information on heart disease and National Wear Red Day, visit
Feel free to take this button for your post!

What do you use for fuel during your long runs?
Tell me something about your Thursday!

100 mile I come!

Well, I finally did it. I signed up!! I'll be running the Indiana Trail 100 on April 26.
I've known for a few months that I was going to do it, but hadn't signed up. But now it's official! It's really going to happen. Yes, I'm terrified! But I am also so excited. I've been reading lots of books and even talking to people who have ran ultra's before, trying to get all the knowledge and advice I can get. Here we go!!

I didn't get my long run in on Saturday. :(
But I did get in 5, and then another 5 on Sunday and Monday, and today. I hate not getting those long runs in though. This weekend nothing will stop me.

I also didn't get to do the American Lung Association stair climb race on Saturday. In order to participate, you had to raise $100, and I was $65 short. I was SO disappointed. After my disastrous fund raising efforts for the Chicago marathon, I said I would never try to fundraise again. But when I saw that I only needed $100, I just knew I could do that. Well, I was wrong. So I'll say again, I'll never do another fundraiser!

The Super Bowl was pretty exciting this year, huh? Yea...
I didn't even think the commercials were all that great.
Bruno, on the other hand, was awesome!! I've never listened to the RHCP, so could've done without them. But I loved Bruno!

Have a fabo day, my friends!!
