11 miles and dress shopping

I've been enjoying a few days alone because J and the boys went to a youth conference in GA this weekend. There is nothing like being in a completely quiet house, no stress, no noise, just peace...ahhhh.

My long run this weekend was 11 miles and I decided to do that Friday, so I could sleep in on Saturday.
I got an early start so I could beat some of this heat and humidity. I'm so glad I did!

I also need to remember to start carrying my water with me. I run at a park and usually run 5 miles before going back to my car for water and fuel. But in this humidity I need water a lot more often than every 5 miles! This drinking fountain was a huge relief. Pretty sure I drank nonstop for about 10 minutes.

Have I mentioned that I hate shopping? I think I have...anyway, I decided I love Old Navy. And Target. So I'll go shopping if those stores are involved!
Since I had time alone I decided to go do a little shopping. I've been loving cute summer dresses lately, and needed to add to my huge collection of 1!

I found a few things at Old Navy (who can turn down $1 flip flops??) Then I headed over to Target. I found at least 10 adorable dresses. Tried them all on. But left empty handed. I was not happy with the way any of them looked on me!!

I was either too tall, too fat, too wide, too SOMETHING. With every single dress I thought dang, this would look hot if I was just 25 lbs thinner!
And I realized that's why I hate shopping. I know have a bad self image and I am working on that, believe it or not! It's depressing that I've gained 15 lbs, but I've kept off 30! I'm not where I want to be, but I've ran 4 marathons, 1 ultra, and have 3 more marathons to run this year!
I'm trying to tell myself the GOOD things my body has done, and not focus on the not so good. I'm replacing the negative thoughts, with positive ones. It's not about being skinny, it's about being healthy!
So as for now, my dress collection is still at 1.But hopefully that will change soon!

The rest of my quiet weekend will be spent watching the whole 2nd season of OITNB.

What's your favorite show right now?
Did you run this weekend?

What I ate Wednesday #1

For the first time I am linking up with Jenn for What I ate Wednesday!

Last weekend Jeremy and I went to the Biltmore Mansion in Ashville, NC. It was absolutely beautiful!! I could totally live there.
I'm going to share a few things I ate while there, and also some of the low carb dishes I've made lately. (I've been doing low carb lately, trying to lose some weight)

In Knoxville, TN we went to Cafe 4. I got maple pecan crusted salmon, brussels sprouts and cubed sweet potatoes. I am not joking when I say this is the BEST meal I've ever had. I hate brussels, but these were amazing. Who knew??!! I've already found the recipe for the salmon and can't wait to recreate it.
In Asheville we went to a Japanese restaurant, and along with sushi, they also gave us a bowl of seaweed and squid. That was definitely a first for me. The seaweed was ok, and the squid wasn't too bad. But just knowing what it looked like alive, and I could not take more than one bite!

And of course...
Here are some delicious low carb meals I've made this week.
Zucchini Lasagna You HAVE to try this. Ridiculous!
Spaghetti squash chicken alfredo
Just as delicious as it looks!

What is the best thing you've eaten lately?
Have you ever had squid?

Cool in the pool

I am happy to report that our A/C is back! Living without it for one day, and the temps being in the 90's, reminded me of my trip to Honduras a couple years ago. They have no a/c there. We visited hospitals, schools, etc., and no air at all. It was just humid and hot all the time. You can see in my pics, everyone is just hot and sweaty, and that's the way they live. But that's all they know, so they're used to it. Anyway, I was very thankful to get it fixed, for only $30, instead of thousands.
The daycare kiddos and I did spend the day in my sister's pool though!

We celebrated Fathers Day Monday night. (This is all but one sister, who lives in WI.) My dad is one of the funniest people I know, and he had just said something and made us all laugh!
See the sister in the maroon top? She just found out she's pregnant with her first baby! She's been married 8 years, so it was a huge, happy surprise!
For this week's marathon training, I have 3 days to do 4 miles, and then my long run will be 10 miles.
I ran Monday morning around 10 a.m., and it was HOT and humid. (I'm not complaining though. After this horrid winter, I'll never complain about the heat!)

As you see, I only made it 3 slow miles. I thought I would pass out if I did anymore. The rest of my short runs this week will be on my treadmill. Fo sho.
Tomorrow afternoon I'm going out of town for the weekend, and won't be able to run. So I'll be waking up very early to get my 10 miles in!

How did you celebrate Fathers Day?
Anyone else running in the heat?

Chase Infinite tank top giveaway!

I have an awesome giveaway for the ladies today!

I just recently ordered a tank from Chase Infinite. I loved it so much I want to give one away to one of you!
I chose this shirt, because for me it doesn't only apply to my running and marathon training, it applies to life in general. It's a great reminder!

I love that this is a family owned company. They run, they crossfit, and they love fitness as much as we do.  And they also donate a portion of every sale to charity. How cool is that!

Check out their website and let me know which one you would choose. Enter the Rafflecopter below.

Happy running!

This weekend's long run was 8 miles. It feels so strange to only run 8 miles, but I'm following my plan.
Saturday's temp was nice and cool, it was a perfect day. I love the park where I do my long runs, it has the perfect mix of hills and flat paths. It's so beautiful!

As I was running I was thinking about how amazing the running community is. I would say 90% of runners I pass, wave or smile or say hi. I just love it! That's one thing I love about running, is the other runners. Just that small act of kindness cheers me up. Not to mention the amazing runner friends I've made! Starting to run a few years ago was one of the best decisions I've made.
Today my stepsons left for camp for a week. No fighting, yelling, attitudes, stress, for a whole week? I hope this week goes very, very slow. :)

This morning the a/c went out, and it's going to be 90 degrees. I think we'll spend the day at the pool!

Did you run this weekend?
If you have kiddos, do they go to camp?
I went every year as a teenager and loved it!

Marathon training...again

Well, I am back to marathon training again!
In September I'll be running the Air Force marathon. Which will be marathon #5. (That is so crazy, I never thought I would run even 1!)
I'm so excited about this race. It's actually on the air force base, which will be so cool!

Honestly, after my disastrous half on Saturday, I had decided I was going to downgrade to the half, instead of the full. I decided marathons were out of my life forever. I was going to have to change my name to "From ice cream to half marathon"
Isn't it funny the crazy things we tell ourselves when we're feeling down?
I actually went to the website, with every intention to switch, and then saw the half was sold out.

Yep, that was my sign. So I sucked it up and decided to stick with the full marathon. And now I'm so glad I didn't change it.

Let the training commence!
For all of my marathons I've followed Runkeeper's training plan. So, that's what I'll be doing again.

I love being back on a plan and following a schedule with my running. I do much better when I'm following a plan.

So, sorry guys, but from now on you'll have to hear all about my marathon training!!

What's your next race?
Do you follow a training plan or do it on your own?

Indy Womens Half Recap

You know how people say every race can't be a good one? Or the bad races really make you appreciate the good races?

Well, those things can be said about my Indy Womens half marathon race on Saturday.
Saturday morning started out great. I got to hang out with Christie, who I hadn't seen in ages. I got to meet and say hi to a couple facebook friends, the weather was nice and cool, everything was perfect!

Almost as soon as the race started, I could tell that I was going to start chaffing. That's a problem I never have, so it's something I don't have to think about. But I remembered the last time I wore this skirt, I was 15 lbs. thinner. Thanks to the stress of life lately, I guess I've been drowning my sorrows in too much ice cream.

It got so bad, so quick. At the 5k turnaround mark, I was seriously considering turning. But then I thought about the gorgeous medal that I really wanted. (It's the little things!)

I wanted to scream in pain with every step. And that's not a pain that will ease with walking, so it hurt either way!

Finally at the 7 mile mark I stopped at a medical tent and they gave me something for it. That definitely helped me finish out the race, but most of the damage had already been done. Also around that time, and for a couple miles my stomach was really hurting. I have no idea why. I didn't eat or drink anything out of the ordinary. So, I paid the porta potty a nice long visit. Ugh.

Isn't running gross and embarrassing? Well, it is what it is, and it happens to all of us.

I love Indy, it's a beautiful city. It was a lot of fun running through it. The course was mostly flat, with a lot of shade too. Which was nice because it warmed up a LOT! The volunteers and water/powerade stations were awesome too.

I didn't look at my time until I was on mile 13. I knew it was bad and didn't want to start crying any sooner than I needed to. I finally see Christie and Jeremy at the finish.

Sure enough, I finished in 2:47. Out of all 8 half's that I've done, this was my worst time. It's kind of ironic that 2 weeks ago I PR'd with a 2:22!

So, it was very disappointing, I shed a few tears. Knowing that this was my last big race until the end of September, made it harder.
But, it's ok! I wasn't going to let it ruin my mood or my day. I just focused on my race 2 weeks ago, and remembered that the majority of my races are good ones. And what they say is right, I appreciate those even more!
And I KNOW what I need to do. I am now serious about getting this 15 off again, plus 20 more.

Getting to hang out with my girl definitely made me feel better!

Love the bling! Oh, and as for the drumstick, I decided not to even take 1 bite. Now that's some willpower!

Have you had a bad race?

Anyone wanna lose a few pounds with me? I do so much better with some accountability!

5 Things Friday!

Happy Friday!!

Here are 5 things from my week:

1.) Yummy food: Chicken alfredo, made with spahetti squash. I love love this stuff. Probably even more so than noodles. I use the low carb alfredo sauce, to make it a low carb meal. Deelish! This is the only way I've used spaghetti squash, but I know there are so many other ways to use it. Pinterest, here I come!
2.) Cute boys: Is he not the cutest thing ever?? Visiting a friend the other day and got to snuggle with him. Those lips!

3.) Weekly running: Only 2 runs this week, Monday and Wednesday, for National Running Day! I don't taper for half marathon's, but I guess you could say that's what I did this week.

4.) Dreams: For over a year I have wanted to be a spin instructor. In fact, I ALMOST had a job once. But since then, I just set it on the back burner. Lately I've been thinking more about it. And I've decided to just go for it. So, in September I will get my certification to teach spin! I'm so excited. My ultimate dream is to someday open my own studio. On the beach. ;)

5.) Race tomorrow!! Tonight I'll be going to the beautiful city of Indianapolis to run the Indy Womens Half tomorrow! And the icing on the cake... one of my most amazingest (yes, I made that word up) friends in the world, Christie, surprised me by signing up too! I haven't seen her in over a year, so can't wait to see her pretty face again.

Tell me 1 (or 2 or 5) things! Anything at all!

Annnnd it's summer break

Not summer break for me, but for the kids.
I always dread this time of year because of course my 2 stepsons are out of school, and I also have 3 or 4 daycare kids. Which makes a whole lot of kids and a whole lot of chaos. I don't do good with chaos. (So why do I have a home daycare then? I don't know.)

But I'm determined to make this summer good. I will find joy in the journey!

Here's how it started out.
Last night I went for a run around the neighborhood, leaving the boys alone. (They're 14 and 16) No problem, right? Wrong.

I was at mile 3 and get a call from Matthew saying hurry home, Jonah fell out of a tree. WHAAAAT??
I sprinted home, cutting through lots of backywards. Needless to say, that was my fastest mile.

Sure enough, Jonah thought climbing a tree would be fun. Which I agree, it does sound like fun. But, he slipped and fell out. He thought he broke his ankle, but I wasn't sure.
I haven't seen that boy cry in about 10 years, and his cry broke my heart!
Thankfully, Jeremy was on his way home, so I met him in town, and he took him to the hospital. It's just a sprain. But, he won't be playing football for a few weeks now.

I didn't get my long run in this weekend, for the first time in months! I really missed it.
I went to a friends graduation, and then later to my niece's graduation party. My weekend was packed full.
Saturday will be half #8, the Indy Womens Half marathon. I can't wait!

I'm hoping we got the drama out of the way and now can have a fun, relaxing summer break!!

Have you ever broken a bone?
 I never have!

The post that I'll never publish

Why will I never publish this post? Because I want everyone to think I have it all together and that I'm as happy as a clam in butter sauce. Everyone says I'm inspirational and positive. I don't want you to see this side of me.

So who is the real Katie? She is sad. She so desperately longs for a baby, but she knew when she married her husband he didn't share that desire. Now it has overtaken her. It's all she thinks about. It has consumed every thought. Every day that passes is one day closer to her body changing and never allowing her the ability to even become pregnant.

I can hardly bear the thought of never being a mommy. Never knowing that love, that joy. Never seeing a positive pregnancy test, never feeling the baby move inside of me, never hearing its first cry, never being someones everything. That is too much for me to bear.

I'm beginning to hate. I'm becoming bitter. It's so unfair.

For this reason, I am torn. What do I do. Do I lay it all down, surrender all, let it go, and just stay. Try to find joy in other things. Try to tell myself a baby isn't everything. I don't need one. That it's something I never need to experience.
Or do I chase my dreams and desires. Is having a baby worth what I'll be giving up.

I'm not looking for answers, I'm just having a moment of feeling like I want to be completely real and take off my mask. I've been going through this for 9 months. This has been the hardest time of my life. Just when I think there couldn't possibly be more tears to cry, I discover there are.

But I know this too shall pass. Life is like a marathon. You feel like you're past the breaking point, and you can't run one more step. But you do. You keep on going. And then you make it.
I read somewhere that life's obstacles can either block your path, or they can be stepping stones to our success. I choose to make this a stepping stone.

And now this has become a post I will publish.

The happy and inspirational Katie will be back tomorrow.
Now I'm going for a run.
