Running again...or so I thought

Well, I thought I was back to running.

After resting my leg (fibula) for 9 days, I ran 3 miles on Monday. It was so wonderful. Especially with the cooler weather we've been having, I could've ran for hours.
Afterwards I felt great. No pain at all.
So last night I went out for 4 miles. And the pain came back. I'm pretty sure I couldn't have ran anymore. It was hurting so bad, it even woke me up in the night. Unfortunately I am back to limping and wearing that pretty little boot.

I am freaking out a little bit, I'm halfway through marathon training for the Air Force marathon, and have 8 weeks left! I have to do this. I'll see how tonight's run goes, and if I'm still in pain, I guess I'll make an appointment to see a sports doctor.

In good news, I went for my interview this week. To say I was terrified is an understatement!
I hadn't been on a job interview in 13 years, and was pretty clueless. After watching a bunch of you tube videos and doing lots of research, I walked into the interview confident and knowing what to expect.
And it went excellent!! My interviewer had done a couple interviews before me, and had one more to do, but said he already knew I was the one he wanted for the job. I'll know for sure by the end of the week.
Relaxing and trying to breath again after the interview!
Tonight I've planned to run 5 miles. I'm going to do my best. I want to just ignore the pain and push through it, but I know that wouldn't be smart. So I'll try to be careful!

5 Things Friday

Today is the last Friday of July! That's so hard to believe.

Here's a few highlights of my week:

1.Taking my stepson fishing. I so badly wanted to to go for a run while he was fishing, but I'm still resting my leg. Instead, I sat with him and had a very relaxing afternoon.

2. This amazing grilled cheese sandwich. I could make this Pesto, mozzarella and tomatoes. Heaven.

3. This weekend I'll be going to King's Island with Jeremy, the boys, and my FIL. I haven't been there in about 20 years. I liked roller coasters back then, now not so much. These days I'd rather run 100 miles than ride a roller coaster! But who knows, they may convince me to change my mind...
Sunday I'm going to a Garden Party. Doesn't that sound fancy? I love dressing up and being girly, so I'm excited about it.

This is such great news, that I need to combine 4 & 5.
I have a job interview on Tuesday! I am so excited. I may have reacted like this guy after hanging up the phone.

After working from home for 8 years, it's going to be wonderful to be out in the real world again!

Do you like roller coasters?
I haven't been on a job interview in 13 years, do you have any tips for me?

TWBT (Throw Way Back Thursday)

Well, still no running for this girl. And I think I just might go mad!
I did go for a 2 mile walk though. I'd never been to this park before, and the 2 mile trail is just grass. So I couldn't run here, but it's nice when all I can do is walk.

Along the trail they had weight machines set up, which was very interesting. I've never seen that before!
After the walk my fibula was sore, but not too bad.

I was hoping to do my 15 mile long run on Saturday, but have since found out I will be spending the day at Kings Island, so no long run for me.  I'm sure it's probably a good thing to rest it for a few more days. I sure don't like getting behind on my marathon training though!

Hanging out with these pretty girls was fun. Although I hated that I wasn't able to run off the margarita's I drank! Since using My Fitness Pal, I still keep track of everything I eat and drink. I haven't gone over my calories yet!
My beautiful little sister. She's 3 months pregnant with her first baby. She's the cutest thing ever!
So I know TBT (throw back Thursday) is big on IG, but I'm going to do it here. I was going through some pictures the other day and found this picture from probably 12 years ago.
I've struggled with weight my whole life, and I can remember this day like it was yesterday. I had never ever ever worn a 2 piece, and I remember finally being confidant enough to wear one for the very first time. I was on vacay in FL with a couple girlfriends, so I felt 'safe'.

Finding this picture just encouraged me that I can and will get back to that! Actually, even better than that, because then I was not exercising at all.
It's a daily struggle, but it's worth it. It will be worth it.
Looking at this picture makes it easier to say no to the ice cream that is constantly calling my name!
If you're trying to lose weight, what do you use as motivation?
I used to use pictures of celebrities or models. But these days I just use good ole Katie. I've done it before, I can do it again!

My dear fibula and some ice cream

A year and a half ago I was injured training for my first marathon. I am now training for my 5th marathon, and have the same injury again!

Back at that time, after googling my symptoms, I thought I had Peroneal Tendonitis. But in doing more research, I think it was a stress fracture of the fibula. And I think that's what it is again.
Last time the area was swollen, this time it is not, so I honestly have no idea, I'm just guessing.

It's been aching for several weeks every time I run, but Saturday during what was supposed to be an 8 mile run, it hurt so bad I had to stop. It even hurt driving home, since it's my right foot.
Unfortunately, that's as far as I made it. You can tell by my pace how slow I was even running!
I was super disappointed. I SO look forward to my long runs, crazy I know. But that morning was overcast, cool, and just perfect running weather. It was going to be so great.

So I put this pretty thing back on.

My goal for the week is to do NO RUNNING. It kills me to say that!!
I'll do spin class once or twice, maybe walk a little bit, and keep up with my Slim in 6 strength training. And then next Saturday- 15 miles, baby!

If you didn't know, yesterday was National Ice Cream day! There is no way I could not celebrate! So celebrate I did.
Graeter's ice cream with my stepson.

Froyo with a couple friends
I didn't feel too bad about eating it twice. I only got one scoop at Graeter's and a very small serving (for me) of froyo. I mean this day only comes once a year, ya gotta do it right!
Starting today I will be using My Fitness Pal. I've used it in the past, but never stuck with it. This time I will!
If you're on there, add me, I'm fromicecreamtomarathon. I need some accountability!

The winner of my stainless steel water bottle is Lynne Day. Congrats girl! I've sent you an email.

Did you get some ice cream on NICD?

Ever had a running injury? How did you get through it?

Brown County 10 mile hike

This weekends long run was supposed to be a 13 miler. But instead I decided to go on a 10 mile, hilly hike in the Brown County State Park. Well, it was supposed to be a 5 mile hike, but it kind of turned into 10!

Have you ever talked to someone online a couple times, and felt an instant connection? That's what happened with Kim. We met on my facebook page, talked a couple times, saw each other from a distance at the Indy Women's Half and waved, and that was it. Yet I knew she was someone I would have a blast hanging out with! So, we set a hiking date in Brown County. She's a runner too, and is training for her first full, the Chicago Marathon!

Their longest trail was a 5.5 mile, out and back. So that's the one we decided on.
It ended up being almost 10 miles because we may have taken a wrong turn or something...
It was very hilly and we even got rained on a little bit, which felt great.

After our awesome hike, we drove to town and ate at Big Woods Brewing Co.
Buffalo grilled chicken sandwhich and spicy cole slaw. YUM.
There's a lot of little shops in Brown County, and that's what the county is known for. But both of us would rather hike than shop, so the only shopping we did was in a little candy store. :)

We said our goodbyes and I headed back home. I decided to drive back into the park one more time, just to drive around.
Kim had told me about a fire tower there, but we decided not to stop because our legs were already pretty sore!
I wasn't even thinking about it, until I drove right up to it. I thought well, I'm here, I might as well climb it!

It's 180 steps, and in the old days it was used to look for forest fires, because you can see almost the whole park from up there.
It was a little windy and shaky up there, so I didn't stay long!
I had a fabulous time with this chick and can't wait to hang out with her again!!

What did you do this weekend?

All good things come to an end

Happy Friday!

What a week it has been. I have made a huge change this week.
After 8 years of having a home daycare, I have decided to close up shop. It's hard to believe it's been that long! I've had lots of kiddos in that time. Lots of good times, few bad times. Excellent parents and crazy parents.
It's going to be the hardest to let go of my 2 girls. They're both 3, and I've had them since they were just weeks old. I've spent 10 hours a day, 5 days a week with them. And I adore them to pieces. They definitely have a piece of my heart. It makes me sad to think that soon they probably won't even remember me.

But, that's just life. Nothing stays the same, something is always changing. I am ready for this change, and very excited about it!
I have no idea what I'm going to do now. No idea. I often wish I had gone to college 15 years ago. I think of who I could be, or what I could be doing. But honestly, I'm one of those people who thought I would have my own children and be a stay at home mom, living the dream. But life rarely goes how we think it will, and that didn't end up happening for me. Instead I've just spent my life raising other people's children.

I have a couple more weeks with my kiddos before I have to say goodbye. In the meantime, I am on the hunt for a fun, adventurous, exciting, well paying job. (Yes, I'm dreaming) Any suggestions?

With all this on my mind, I was SO needing this girls night out with Julie, Kari and Laura! These girls are a blast to hang out with, I am so thankful for them!

The BEST veggie sandwich EVAH!!

Havana Rumba is where it's at. And they have the best margarita's around.

Tomorrow I'm off to Brown County, IN for some hiking, shopping and ice cream eating!
My 13 mile run will have to wait until Sunday.

 On to a new adventure!

Weekly workouts and a yummy recipe

It seems like I just started my marathon training and I'm already in the 6th week! Time flies when you're having fun.

Monday: 3.1 mile run, Slim in 6 workout
Tuesday: Spin class, Slim in 6
Scary moment in spin class. There was a guy right next to me, and it was his first time spinning. Through the whole class I kept thinking this guy needs to slow down a little! He was a pretty big guy and was breathing real loud and grunting- I could tell he was having a hard time. But he did everything the instructor said, he was going hard! With about 15 minutes to go, he suddenly just crumples down! He didn't fall off the bike, because his feet were strapped in, he just fell down into the bike. (Ouch)
The instructor ran over and another guy beside him helped him up and he was ok. He didn't get back on the bike after that!
Wednesday: 5 mile run, Slim in 6
Thursday (today): Slim in 6

I know it's only been a week, but I can already tell a difference in my strength from doing SI6 everyday! My legs and arms have been pretty sore since Monday. But I love it!!

I have to share this delicious recipe I made a few days ago. If you remember, when we visited the Biltmore a couple weeks ago, we ate at Cafe 4 in Knoxville and I had maple pecan crusted salmon.
It was SO good, and I said I was going to find the recipe. Well, my mom found it for me and I made it. It was amazing!!
The recipe is here. The only thing I would do different is not cook it quite as long. It was a little drier than I like. But it was very good!

How are your workouts going this week?
Do you have a good recipe to share?

Great Buffalo Chase 5k and letting go

This morning I ran the Great Buffalo Chase 5k with these lovely ladies. (Julie and Kari)
Last night after picking up my packet, I decided to go for a run while I was in Frankfort. I found a beautiful park and ran 3 miles. I love finding new places to run. This park had a view of the KY river, and was gorgeous!
AND I got to run with one of the elite runners.
Well, maybe for 2 seconds.
Ok, maybe he ran past me so fast he was just a blur.
It was still cool seeing one of them up close and in person.

I ran this race last year, had a great time, and knew I would be running it again. The course goes through the Buffalo Trace Distillery and is pretty flat.
The weather was perfect. As crazy as it sounds, I had my heat on in the car on my way to the race!
As for letting go...
Sorry if I put that song in your head now!
For the first time in over a year, I didn't stress out about running a sub 30 5k. I just
Sure, it was in the back of my mind, but I decided I'm just going to do my best and enjoy it. I know it'll happen sometime, I have no doubt about that.
I can't tell you how good it felt to just run, no pressure.
And I ended up doing better than I thought I would! There were times I knew I could run faster, but there were tons of people, so I slowed down at times.

I was very happy with that!
I realized I didn't get any pics of my patriotic socks, so I had to add this pic too.
Tomorrow I'll be waking up bright and early to do my long run, 12 miles!
Happy 4th of July!!

Did you run or race today?
