My dear fibula and some ice cream

A year and a half ago I was injured training for my first marathon. I am now training for my 5th marathon, and have the same injury again!

Back at that time, after googling my symptoms, I thought I had Peroneal Tendonitis. But in doing more research, I think it was a stress fracture of the fibula. And I think that's what it is again.
Last time the area was swollen, this time it is not, so I honestly have no idea, I'm just guessing.

It's been aching for several weeks every time I run, but Saturday during what was supposed to be an 8 mile run, it hurt so bad I had to stop. It even hurt driving home, since it's my right foot.
Unfortunately, that's as far as I made it. You can tell by my pace how slow I was even running!
I was super disappointed. I SO look forward to my long runs, crazy I know. But that morning was overcast, cool, and just perfect running weather. It was going to be so great.

So I put this pretty thing back on.

My goal for the week is to do NO RUNNING. It kills me to say that!!
I'll do spin class once or twice, maybe walk a little bit, and keep up with my Slim in 6 strength training. And then next Saturday- 15 miles, baby!

If you didn't know, yesterday was National Ice Cream day! There is no way I could not celebrate! So celebrate I did.
Graeter's ice cream with my stepson.

Froyo with a couple friends
I didn't feel too bad about eating it twice. I only got one scoop at Graeter's and a very small serving (for me) of froyo. I mean this day only comes once a year, ya gotta do it right!
Starting today I will be using My Fitness Pal. I've used it in the past, but never stuck with it. This time I will!
If you're on there, add me, I'm fromicecreamtomarathon. I need some accountability!

The winner of my stainless steel water bottle is Lynne Day. Congrats girl! I've sent you an email.

Did you get some ice cream on NICD?

Ever had a running injury? How did you get through it?

  2. Ug, sorry about the injury. Hopefully you've caught it early and the time off will help. I usually am not too fun to be around when I'm injured, but eating ice cream always helps!

  3. Boo for your injury! Hopefully with some rest you'll recover and get back out there! :) Sending prayers!
I did not have any ice cream yesterday, but my birthday is this Wednesday, so I'll make up for it then!
And I'm glad you found me on MyFitnessPal! I love it and it's what I've been using to keep track of my food since I started losing weight back in 2012! I have a heart-rate monitor and it helps me to know exactly how many calories I've burned! The calories on the MFP exercise thing are WAY off!

    1. Thank you darlin! I hope you do have some for your birthday! :)
I've heard great success stories from people using MFP, so I hope it works for me too! Too bad the exercise thing is off though.

  7. I'm so sorry about the injury again! But I think your smart at taking a pro-active approach and putting the boot back on!
My Dr told me with my Peroneal Tendonitis at anytime of any sign of pain just put it back on until the pain goes, and then slowly wean myself out of it. Which even though you think it's something different, it will probably help just the same!
Good luck, I hope it heals quick!
My only advice on getting through running injuries, as I am climbing out of my own that has boggled me for the past 18 months, it just rest it, keep a good attitude and follow what the Dr's say and if you don't think what they say is working, get a 2nd opinion. So sad for you! Heal quick my friend!!!

  16. Have you been to a doctor to officially diagnose it?? If not, maybe you should! As for ice cream...girl...up here in New England we live and breathe ice cream. Thank goodness I don't live here anymore, and just here on vacation but I've pretty much eaten ice cream every day! Not good for the waistline!

    1. Yes, I went the last time I had this problem. They took x rays and said nothing was wrong! I have since heard x rays are not the best, and I should get an mri for more accuracy. I'm hoping just by resting it, it'll be ok. And hopefully will be good for another year and a half!
Wow, I probably couldn't live there either. That would be too much of a temptation!

  17. Summers were made for eating ice cream...and isn't one of the best parts of being a runner that we can enjoy it guilt-free? Haha. Sorry you're in pain -- wishing you a speedy recovery! I get pains in my foot, too, and pretty much self-diagnosed myself with tendonitis, but it sounds like if it's hurting badly enough for you to stop running (and even while driving home!) that you're definitely making the right decision in giving it time to heal.

  18. so bummed for you!! hopefully it will heal soon. Hip surgery was the hardest thing for me...and now i'm fighting something with my piriformis, but hoping it's not major. I did not have ice cream because I'm limiting it a treat once a week (but i did have it twice on saturday!)

    1. I hope yours heals soon too, even small injuries are no fun. I need to limit myself to one day a week. It sure is hard to do though!
