Hiking, Biking and Ironman Lou

Well, this is my last week of freedom, and I have enjoyed it! Monday I start my new job.

I rode a bike for the first time in YEARS. That was fun. I was a little shaky at first, had a few close calls with a runner and a man on a lawn mower. Laughed a lot. But in the end, I loved it! I want my own bike now.

Yesterday I went on a 6.5 mile hike with a friend. Yes, I know I'm injured. I shouldn't be walking 6.5 miles or running a bunch of stairs. But I just can't help myself!!

Injury update:
Today I go for an MRI. I haven't ran in almost 2 weeks, so my leg and foot are feeling better since I've been resting. Yesterday I ran just a few steps, to test it out. OUCH.
I miss my running. I feel like I've gained 20 lbs. This sucks!
Believe me, when I'm cleared to run again, it's gonna be a marathon! Ain't no stoppin' me!

And what I've been looking forward to all week...Ironman Louisville is on Sunday!

I'll be volunteering at an aid station, handing out water.
The not so good news is that it's going to be the hottest day of the YEAR!  The temps are going to be in the UPPER 90's and sunny, with a heat index of 103!
When I feel like I'm melting out there, I'll just think of those athletes swimming, biking and running 140.6 miles in that heat! I can't even imagine!

Do you like biking?
What are your plans for the weekend?

  2. How fun to get out hiking! My fingers are crossed for your MRI, that they'll figure out whats wrong, and that it will be something that can be healed quick from!!!
Have fun volunteering! This year is crazy weather, your getting temps we should be at, and we are apparently scheduled for some snow in our higher elevations tomorrow, LOL
One thing about Ironman, people who do them are tough, the heat shouldn't bother them much because hopefully they trained for it! Good luck to all the athletes!

    1. They said the results should be in Tuesday, can't wait to find out, I'm so tired of waiting!
You're right about them being tough. The people in charge are talking about shortening the running course because of the extreme heat. There are some pissed off athletes! I wouldn't be happy about that either, I'm sure it's hard for them to know exactly what to do. Can't please everyone!

  3. I haven't been on my bike in months. And I have a 30 mile bike ride coming up in a couple weeks. Yikes!

God luck with the MRI today. Hope you get some good news.

    1. OMG Clarinda! I'm sure you'll still do fine though. We only rode 6 miles, I can't wait to do a longer distance.
      Results back Tuesday!

  4. Looks like you've been having some fun! I haven't been on an actual bike (e.g. not a stationary bike) in years. I'm too cheap to buy one. :) I hope your MRI goes well and that nothing serious is wrong! My weekend's going to be pretty boring--just working and spending time with my hubby when I get home.

    1. I was shocked to see how expensive bikes are! I can't imagine spending $1k+. I thought maybe I would just buy a Walmart bike- that should do for awhile! Have a good weekend!

  5. I like biking, but I'm not very good at it. Somehow as I get older, I get less coordinated! :)

    1. That's my problem too. Hopefully the more I do it, the more coordinated I can get!

  6. Props for volunteering at the ironman in the heat! They are going to need tons of water.

Resting is really hard during injury. Biking is a great option to keep up fitness and it's just fun!

  7. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not a stress fracture my friend! Keep resting!! Nurses orders!! I do like biking! My hubby and I went on a 20 mile bike ride when were were in CA and it was amazing. I have a mountain bike, but there aren't many mountains in DC, so I would love to switch over and get a road bike at some point!
