Final decision is made

I didn't think my Ortho Dr would return my call, but he did this morning.

When I asked him what he thought about me running the marathon tomorrow, this was his reply: "did you really just ask me that??"

Needless to say, he does not think it's a good idea. He said it's too soon, and I would probably be back where I was when all this started- in pain again.

He said he is fine with me easing back into running though, just taking it slow and stopping if it hurts.

So, I will not be running the marathon tomorrow. While I am disappointed, I have no doubt that's the right choice. But I am very happy and excited that I can start running again. A few weeks ago I thought I wouldn't run again until next year, so I am very thankful for that!

I can't wait to cheer on Julie and the rest of the runners tomorrow, and run it myself next year!

  1. I just read your last post & then this one... I think its a smart call to not do it. Even though I know that pull of wanting to do it so badly, but you don't want to be back in square one. Small steps... that's what you gotta do... it'll give you MORE marathons to run in the future if you miss on this time :)
    Take care of you :)

    1. You're exactly right. I would be so mad at myself if I did it, and then made it worse. There will always be more marathons! (That's what I have to keep telling myself!) Thanks lady. :)

  4. Definitely a good decision! I'm glad you called your doc and he told you not to run a marathon just yet. Cheering will be fun and you can rock your next marathon...once you're totally healed! :)

  5. I think it's the right decision. Running could have led to worse problems (injuring something else because you haven't been running). It's great that you can start to ease back into it!

  7. I can't lie, I'm happy about this decision. I know it's been hard to come to terms with, but it really is the best thing. Honestly, I would continue to rest it for another couple of weeks and no running. Then you can come back better than ever!

  9. Do you still need surgery? Definitely think you made the right decision. You don't want to make things worse. Next year will be your year to run. So sorry though! Xox

  11. I know how tough this decision was for you, but I think you made the right choice! Get yourself healed correctly, and get back into it slowly and next year you'll be entering tons of races and marathons and won't have to worry about an injury!!!

  13. I'm so sorry you're going to have to skip your marathon, but it's much better to miss one race and heal quickly than to push it and injure yourself more. It sounds like you have a good outlook, though. I hope your feeling of disappointment fades away quickly.
