A few things Friday

Happy Friday!
First of all, I want to say congrats to Abby, at Back at Square Zero for winning my Spartan Race giveaway! She's running a marathon this weekend, go wish her well!!

Ok, let's start with the most important thing.
New shoes, baby! I found these Skechers GoRun 2's on sale for over half off, and couldn't resist! They're minimalist, just like my Brooks Pure Flo 2's, so I knew I'd love them. I still haven't had a chance to run in them, but I did wear them to spin class, and they're super comfy! I'll be running 16 miles in them tomorrow.

Sushi twice in one week?? Yes, please. Last night the family took my stepson out to his fave restaurant for his 16th birthday, which is today.

My darling cousin came down from Indiana and stayed with me for a few days. We had so much fun together! One night we went out for margarita's and to see Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. It was a great movie.

After my spin class on Tuesday, I just HAD to get some of this. It's been forever since I had froyo, and since it's across the street from spin, I knew this was my chance! And you know I can eat froyo or ice cream in any temperature, so I really didn't mind that it was only 10 degrees outside. 
Today is the last day to donate to the American Lung Association, for my Fight for Air stair climb race tomorrow! To participate, it's mandatory to raise $100, and I'm almost halfway there. If you can donate $5-$10, it would be greatly appreciated! Do so here.

20 mile treadmill run!

Saturday was a new 'first' for me, I ran 20 miles on my treadmill! The most I've done before was 18.
I like to watch Netflix while I'm running, and had just finished Orange is the new Black, so was looking for a new series to watch, and found this one.


It is SO good! It really made those miles fly by!
At mile 12 my legs were starting to hurt and I seriously considered stopping. I got off the tm for about 5 minutes. But that was all the time I needed to talk myself into getting back on and finishing. And the craziest thing happened, I started feeling good again, and had no problem getting to 20. I knew if I had more time I could've done 26.2- I was feeling that good! That is a goal someday, to run a marathon on my treadmill.
It took me about 4.5 hours, which is under a 13 min. mile. I was very happy about that!


 

Saturday night we went out to a sushi restaurant. Which I love ALMOST as much as ice cream. Almost.
Edamame and sushi= heaven
Tonight I'm going to a new (to me) boot camp class! I decided to take this class instead of spin, just for something different. Should be fun!!
 One last thing, I've told you guys about my twinnie's amazing cake making skills, here is her latest cake. This pic is seriously the background on my phone! I just look at it, and it makes me all kinds of happy!!

A little bit of Hodge-Podge

Well, today is ANOTHER snow day! These kids have been out of school all week long. I know they're loving it though. This morning the temp is -5. That's just crazy!! I  try to think of my future home, and it makes things a little better. Haha!

Now for a few random things.
My darling friend Hanna, recently started her own business with Rodan+Fields. She sent me some samples to try out. I had never even heard of the company before she told me about it. I tried the micro-dermabrasion paste, and I loved it. My skin was so soft, it was awesome! They have great products and it's also a great business opportunity as well. Not long ago I received an adorable bag from Fitmark Bags. Well, I just found out they launched a giveaway for one of their Limited Edition Nice bags. I love mine, and I know you would too! Enter giveaway here. Contest ends Feb. 18.

I recently found out about the Fight for Air Climb, and saw that it's coming to Louisville! I had heard about stair climbs before and always wanted to do one. So, I signed up! It'll be next Saturday (the 1st), it's 38 floors, 770 steps!! I'm really excited about trying something new. I asked on my facebook page if anyone had done one, and got some great replies and advice. Someone had done a 66 floor and an 86 floor stair climb before!! They said if you can do a 5k, you can do this.
 I'm one of those people who uses the elevator instead of the stairs (I know, I know), so this should be interesting. I can't wait! I do have to raise $100 for the American Lung Association by Feb. 1, if you're interested in donating $5- $10, please do so here! Thank you!
I have 24 miles on the schedule tomorrow. It's supposed to warm up to 23 degrees. It might be a treadmill run instead! Have a fabulous weekend, friends!

Frozen Running (and I don't mean outside)

This weekend, over 90,000 runners ran for Meg. I was one of them. She was tragically hit and killed by a drunk driver a week ago, leaving behind a husband and 3 small children. My heart just goes out to her family, I can't even imagine.
I ran 13 miles on my treadmill. It was just too cold outside, and I love my treadmill, so that worked out great for me!
Yesterday we actually had a gorgeous, sunny day- in the 40's! There was no way I could not go for a run, even though it was my scheduled rest day. If I had more time, I felt like I could've ran at least 20!
We got several inches of snow today, so that means I didn't have any daycare kiddos, so I got the day off! It has been so nice and quiet. I could definitely get used to this!
 I've been wanting to see the movie Frozen, I've heard so much about it. So when I found out I could watch the full movie on Youtube, I knew what I was going to do today! I got in a 3 mile treadmill run, then sat down to watch it. Here it is, if you want to watch it. I loved it!


 I want to answer a couple questions about my juice fast. It felt SO good to eat food again! As much as I wanted to stuff my face with food, I knew that would not be smart at all. I started off with just a small salad and some fruit (that I didn't have to juice! Yay!), and gradually went back to eating normally. I lost 8 lbs. Not bad for 5 days.

Final day on juice fast and a new do!

Happy Friday!
Ladies, I don't know if y'all are this way, but I LOVE changing my hair. I am ALWAYS being asked "is this your real hair?" Or they say "Oh, Katie's changed her hair again". Because I love wearing wigs or hair extensions, and I'm always changing it!
 So, I've done it once again.
I love it!! I have the most fabulous hairdresser in the world. Seriously. This is only my second time going to her, but I'm already in love.

 Today is the  final day on my juice fast! I decided to just do it for 5 days instead of 2 weeks. It has really been wonderful! Honestly, I have not been hungry one time. Of course I'll have cravings for FOOD, like ice cream (haha), but I don't feel hungry at all.
I've made some delicious (and some not so delicious) juices.
Not so delicious at all.


Green juice with spinach, cucumber, lime, pineapple and apple was really good. I also cooked a bunch of veggies in the slow cooker, then pureed them into a soup. Absolutely yummy!
 I've ran twice this week, a 3 miler and a 4 miler. Felt great both times. Tomorrow I'll be doing 14, and then 12 on Sunday.


Yesterday I made a beet juice with a beet, apples, carrots, spinach and lemon. I don't like beets at all, but I love them juiced!
Wine counts, right?


 Today is a snow day for the kids. Come on, Spring! I hate this stuff! But she sure is cute.

Oatworks Winner and Juice Fast Day #1

Congrats to Lisa Jones for winning the Oatworks Smoothies giveaway! I've sent you an email.

My Father in Law took me out to dinner and to see the musical Sister Act. It was excellent! I highly recommend it. I have never seen the movie before, but the musical was soooo good.


My long run on Saturday was supposed to be 21 miles. I got to mile 15 and just stopped. I kept telling myself only 6 more to go!! But I couldn't do it. No reason. My body just wanted to stop. So I listened. I know I should've kept going. I'm training for a 100 mile ultra, I can't stop after only 15!! But I did.
 I was looking at my runs for the past month, and my only long run was 13 miles a couple weeks ago, since my marathon over a month ago!

I have got to keep building up these long runs! I'm wondering if I've lost some endurance, and that's why my body was done at 15...
 Well, it is what it is, I'm not stopping!


Today I started my juice fast. Breakfast juice was a sweet potato, 2 apples, carrots, and a dash of cinnamon. It was so good!

My goal is to do this juice fast/cleanse for 2 weeks. No solid foods, only juice and chicken soup broth. This is my 4th year doing it, and I look forward to it every year!

Oatworks Smoothies review and giveaway!

Did you guys know January is National Oatmeal Month? I didn't either!!
I was recently contacted by Oatworks, asking if I would be interested in trying their smoothies. I started doing some research on them, and found that you would need to eat 2 bowls of oatmeal each day to get as much soluble fiber as is in each bottle of Oatworks. Long TM run and the juice fast that didn't happen.

Happy Monday!!

  It is 1 degree here today. And it's going to get down to -2. That's just too cold. My sister in Wisconsin has temps at -15. I think I would just lose my mind!
 I always say that someday I'm going to move somewhere warm, and I mean it! I told Jeremy that I'm going to find a job in Hawaii for 6 months, then I'll come back here for 6 months. I think he'd be ok with that. ;)

 Since it was so cold this weekend, I decided to do my 14 miles on the treadmill. It was great! I started watching Scandal. LOVE it.
 I did 10:1 intervals. Run for 10 minutes, walk for 1. For the last 5 miles it was more like 10:2. Doing intervals like that help me so much. It really is amazing how much more stamina and energy I have during the whole run.


Today was supposed to be the first day of my 2 week juice fast. Last night I bought all my fruits and veggies, and had everything set to go. This morning I cut up everything I needed, got my cup out, hit the 'on' button and...nothing. It won't start. I discovered that I need to order a replacement lid for it. I am SO disappointed. I ordered the part, but it won't be here for about 2 weeks. Guess I'll just be starting a little later now.

Knee injury update and upcoming races

Happy New Year!
Woke up this morning to 3 degrees. This is just crazy! You'll never hear me complain about the heat in the summer, but you will hear me complain about the cold weather, all winter long. Every morning when I check the weather on my phone, I also check the weather in the Bahamas, California and Florida. It just gives me something to dream about. One day I will live somewhere warm, where it never gets cold!!

  On Monday I told you about injuring my knee. Well, I am happy to say, it is all better! I haven't ran all week just because I wanted to make sure I didn't hurt it worse by running too soon. But I will run 5 miles today on the treadmill, 14 tomorrow and then 7 on Sunday. I'm pretty sure all of those will be on the treadmill!

 I have signed up for 5 races so far for this year. Let me know if you're running any of these!

 I'd also like to find one in Wisconsin, so I can visit my sister and precious baby nephew!
