A wet race and a jumping dog

Lately every single one of my runs has been in the rain, so I didn't expect Saturday's Chocolate 5k to be any different...and it wasn't!
It was raining before the race and throughout the whole thing. There was a flash flood warning, so almost the whole trail was underwater and super muddy! So most of us just ran in the grass (which was also muddy and slippery).
But it was still so much fun! Thankfully it wasn't cold. :)

I ran this race last year, and there were 3 or 4 chocolate stations set up, and you got some at every station. I guess because of the rain, they didn't do that this time. So we got a few pieces in our race bag, and then a few at the end.

There was also no photographer out because of the rain, so no pics either.
I thought because of the conditions, my time would be really slow, so I was surprised to see I didn't do too bad!

After the race I found a bathroom and tried to dry off and change clothes and then headed to the salon to get my hair done. I was ready for a change!
Ok, so it's a VERY small change, I just got a few highlights. I like to lighten it up in the summer.
I've heard that when you get old, having lighter hair makes you look younger, and since I'm now old...I'll probably keep it this way. :)

For Father's Day, the boys and I took Jeremy canoeing. I have this weird fear of canoeing, which I'm really trying to conquer. Obviously, because I've been twice now in the past month.
I started out in a canoe with Matthew, my 17 year old, and had a minor freak out, so we went back to shore and I got in a canoe with Jeremy. I felt much safer with him!
Charlie (our Yorkie) came along too. At one point he decided to jump out of the canoe, and into the lake. He's never been swimming or even around water, so that was fun. We were trying to grab him, and not tip the boat over at the same time. I'm sure we were quite a sight, it was hilarious!
Exciting stuff. I think I'm done with canoeing for awhile. :)
Right before Charlie jumped in. (You can see the top of his head here)
Thank goodness I was holding onto his leash!
That's it for my awesome weekend! How was yours?

  1. Great job at the race in less than ideal conditions! Your hair is gorgeous, too!

You are brave to keep trying the canoeing, despite your fear. I've never been, but I totally understand the anxiety. I'm not big on boats or watersports.

We drove home from our vacation on Saturday. It was a long drive because of weather and traffic, and I was so happy to be home.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thank you Jen! I used to be deathly scared of water, but I outgrew that, and I like it now. But I don't think I'll ever love canoeing- although I keep trying. :)
I hope you had a great vacay! I'm always glad to get back home too.

  2. I hope you had some fun in the canoe. I haven't been canoeing since I was a kid, and I just haven't had opportunities to do it. Now that I'm older and stronger I won't just be sitting there being all bored.

    1. Well, canoeing is good exercise, so I like that part! There are times when it can be nice and relaxing, so it's not all bad.

  3. AHH - that's a bummer that the rain sorta held back on the extras of the race. That's not fair.
I always am afraid that a canoe or kayak will trap me under the water ... so I get the fear. I'm glad you had the leash too.
    Your hair looks fantastic.

  4. I love reading about fears that others have similar to mine!! I am terrified of canoeing for no good reason. I try it almost every year, each time have a minor panic attack. I thought maybe it was because I am a really weak swimmer, but the panic doesn't go away with a life jacket on. So, I'm not sure what it is. Glad you are facing your fears!!!

    1. I know what you mean! I'm a pretty good swimmer, and the water isn't even terribly deep. I think it's just the canoe is kind of wobbly, and I don't feel very secure. I just picture the worst thing happening, for some reason. I'm not like that in any other area of life. Lol!

  6. I'm so over our rainy summer! Glad you got to get out in the canoe. I must say, I prefer the kayak. Less tippy!

I've never been kayaking. Maybe I'll do that next!

  8. Great job on the race in yucky weather! You hair looks very nice! I spent some time this weekend in a kayak, I love being on the water but not a fan of being in lake water :) lucky we were on the ocean this weekend. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Mary Beth! I've never been kayaking, but would like to try it. I agree, lake water is gross. Hope you have a great week too!

  9. Love your hair, but FYI you're not getting old. Because if you're getting old and your a little younger than me, then that means I am getting old and I'm not ready to get old yet, so you can't be old, LOL LOL
Awesome job on the rainy 5k, look at all that chocolate:)
I would love to go canoeing, I have plans to get out in a couple of weeks at a nearby lake:) hopefully!

  10. Um, okay, you are NOT old; I am almost old (40 next month - ha!), and I do find that my hair is getting lighter and lighter - ha! Your hair looks fantastic in this picture! You had a great race, Katie, in spite of the crappy weather; that is awesome!! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope your week is off to a great start!
