Kicking Butt 5k and a costume I won't forget

Saturday I ran the Kicking Butt 5k. I know so many people who hate 5k's, but I love them!
I ran this race the past few years, and it's always been very small (100-200 ppl). This year they changed the name (still for the same cause- colon cancer awareness), and they must've changed the way they advertised it, because there were almost 1000 people there!

Before I knew that, I thought I might have a chance at an AG award, because there were 3 categories in each age group, and the age groups were only 4 years apart. (Are ya following me on that?)
But, once I got there and saw all the people, I knew that wouldn't happen.

I still had a great race. My time was 35 minutes, which I was happy with, because it's a VERY hilly course.

My marathon training plan called for 8 miles on Saturday, and I was planning on doing 5 more after the race, but I only did 2 more.

I had to take this lady's picture. I assume she ran this way, because I saw her before and after the race!
I couldn't stop laughing...or staring. Haha!

The rest of my weekend was spent doing not much at all. Which was nice for a change.

Do you like 5k's?
Craziest costume you've ever seen?

    Great 5k lady!
Isn't it something when you do a race one year & its small & the next year? BLOW IT UP with the people!

  2. I loved seeing this picture of the lady with the butt prop; that would be AWESOME!! I don't know how it would feel to run with it on, but I think it might be worth a try - ha! Way to go on your race; 5Ks are just brutal, but I love them, too!! You should definitely feel like a complete bad ass with those hills, Katie; you did great! Hope your week is off to a great start!

  3. I love 5ks too. I went through a period where I didn't like them, but after I took a break, I realized how much I do enjoy them. I need to start running more of them. Great job on the race!!!

    1. It's a whole different mindset from the longer races, and I really like that every once in awhile! Thanks Annette!

  5. How funny! I still like 5ks but they've just gotten too big and too expensive for my budget. We have one that we do on the 4th of July to benefit our downtown and a Santa run in December that benefits veterans (only $5 per runner!!), but we save the racing budget for longer races. Oh - and the Triple Crown -- we do the 5k on that one too. But that's it! (I'm sure I'll think of others). I remember seeing a lot about the Kicking Butt race in the River City Races e-mails so they must be promoting it now -- might explain the higher number of people this year.

    1. I know what you mean, I won't pay more than $25 for a 5k. I've never heard of a race for only $5!
I've never done any of the Triple Crown races. Maybe someday!

    1. I can't either! Doesn't seem like it'd be very comfortable. I'm sure she got tons of comments though!
