Running, camping, and a new job

Hey guys! I sure have missed you!

I hope you all are having a great summer. I sure am. I can't believe it's almost over. Unbelievable!

I've still been doing lots of running and marathon training. The Indy Monumental marathon is in 11 weeks!
I also got a Bowflex Extreme. Love this thing! Although it doesn't make me sore, like free weights do. I hope I'm still building some muscle.

My family (Jeremy, the boys and I) went camping last month at Rock Island, TN. It was SO beautiful. But it was HOT. Not sure what we were thinking going camping in the middle of summer. (Newbies)
Our last night there, after a day filled with hiking and other fun activities, the boys had just gone into their tent to sleep, and Jeremy said "let's pack up and go home." We couldn't stand the thought of one more hot, sticky, sleepless night in that tent.
We were all  more than happy about that! So we packed everything up, 10:00 at night, and drove 4 hours home.
Just for the record, I will never tent camp again! If I could stay in a cabin or camper, in the Fall, I think that might be fun. But sleeping in a tent, with bugs, spiders, and SUPER creepy noises at three 'O clock in the morning, that is not for me!

I started a new job a couple weeks ago. I am now a nanny for a 4 year old girl and her 3 month old sister. The 4 year old used to be in my home daycare, so I've watched her since she was 3 months old.

It's a weird feeling, because I feel like such a mommy. If that makes any sense at all!
The baby and I drop off her sister at preschool, and then we'll go run errands, or have a playdate at the park with another mom. I'm doing all these 'mommy' things. Of course I love it.
It's so hard being a 'mommy' for only 10 hours a day, when I want that 24/7. But I'm thankful for now I get to love on these precious girls.

Now I'm off for a run!

Do you like camping?
Who else is training for a fall race?

  1. I can only imagine the heart tug when you get 'off' mommy-like-duties :(
Oh girl... I could tell you from the get go that I'm not a summer tent person. Nope .. no way...
Good for you tackling it though with the family :)

  2. My husband and I used to go camping all the time, Katie; now? Not so much. It's too much work!! You have to pack EVERYTHING and then there's the heat, bugs, etc...ugh. It sounds like fun, every once in awhile, and then I remember how much I'll have to get ready, etc., and I forget about it - ha! Congrats on the new gig; looks like you have some pretty tough co-workers to handle. :) Hope you're doing well!

    1. I totally agree, Tara! Yea, my co workers are pretty tough. :)

  3. I hadn't tent camped since I was a kid until I did the Ragnar Trail Relay in West Virginia this past June. It came the worst storm you have ever seen! We had so much water in out tent it was crazy!!! The wind totally destroyed our shelter! Never again!!!! Glad you are back doing what you love!

    1. Oh my gosh Deb, that sounds terrible!! I feel the same way, never again!

  4. So glad you are back. Missed you.

  5. Those girls are so lucky to have you watching them! I hope your dreams come true! Camping can definitely be rough!

    1. Thank you Jess. Yes it can, but I guess that's why some people like it!

  6. My 4 year old is dying to go camping and I have no desire to spend the night in a tent. I'm trying to convince him that he and Daddy can be in the tent and I'll be available up in the lodge in case they need anything. :)

  7. I am not a BIG tent camper either, I love my bed and flush toilet and shower privileges.
I missed you Katie, glad you're back congrats on the new job, you're the BEST nanny they can get.

    1. I do too, Sheetal. Guess I'm too spoiled. :) Thank you my friend, you are so sweet.

  8. Your back, YAY!!!
Congrats on the new job, I think you'll be a fabulous nanny:) Especially since you already know that cute lil girl from before, how fun is that!!!
I have been a little MIA myself, doing just what you did Camping. OMG I love it, have since I was a child I can't ever get enough of it. Frankly I would spend my entire summer camping if I could:) As long as the snow stays away, I hope to get out many more times this year at least through most of October, (fingers crossed)
I will admit though, I did sleep in a tent and do until the temps start dipping below 35 at night. But I do usually go up with my parents, and ya I take advantage of their 5th wheel and don't mind if I do take a shower:)
