Ooops, I have a marathon to train for

I actually said those words last night.
I knew I had the Carmel Marathon coming up in April, but for some reason that seemed like months away. It just hit me that April is not that far away, and the marathon is exactly 12 weeks away!

Most training plans are 17-20 weeks long. Since this will be #7, and I'm not really a 'beginner', hopefully I'll be ok though. So training starts again this week. (I'll be starting with week 9)

Since my last marathon in November, my mileage has been pretty low.
44 miles in Dec., and only 19 so far for January. Pitiful, I know.
Taking a break coincided perfectly with Winter. I hate running outside in the cold.
I use my treadmill a lot in the winter, but haven't been using it much at all lately.

I have still been strength training once a week with a trainer, and I also started back to weekly spin classes, which I LOVE.

As for Weight Watchers, I did not count one point last week. It was a very stressful week, and I just didn't have the energy to count points. In fact, I had a couple days where I said forget it, give me all the food, I don't even care!
Why can't I be one of those people who don't eat when they're stressed?

In other news, I put my name into the NYC marathon lotto. What a dream it would be to run that!

Today is a brand new week, and a brand new day. I'm going to get back on track, I'm going to start training for another marathon, and I'm going to keep looking forward with JOY.

Who else entered NYC?
Are you training for anything?

  1. I'm sure you'll be fine jumping in week 7 - its not like you're not a runner :)
I wish I liked spinning. I actually do - but it KILLS my low back sitting on the seat. I'm actually getting ready to sell my spinning bike. Makes me sad to look at it sitting in my basement.

  2. First, yay about entering NYC! I got in the first time I entered, although I had a qualifying time in a previous race, I was never sure if that helped me in the lottery or if I was lucky in the lottery either way, when I tell people I got in first time they just act shocked and tell me they thought it was impossible, LOL But it is DEFINITELY possible!!!!
    You'll have a great time!
Very cool about Carmel. OMG I can't believe it's 12 weeks away. In my mind I was thinking April races were further away. That is one race on my "to do list" one day. But I think I have told you that before:)

  3. Try the simply filling technique when you're too busy to count points. And I ran my last marathon with my longest run two months before at 18 miles. Then my longest run was 8 miles. I like to think of it as an 8 week taper...
You'll do great! Good luck on the lottery!!!

    1. I'll have to check out the simply filling, I haven't heard of that. 8 week taper- I like that! Thanks Liz!

  4. So I told my brother I would run Bayshore Marathon with him again in May. I was currently training for Houston Full (whixh was last week-almost PRd) and ran the Dallas full Dec. 13 as a training run for Houston. Well I don't know what I was thinking but I decided instead of starting from scratch to train for the marathon in May I would just run a marathon every month until then so that I wouldn't have to do any additional long runs over 10 miles . (Yes- I consulted an couple of experts about this)

  5. Good luck with the NYC lotto. It looks like an awesome event.. Don't worry too much about having a bad week with Weight Watchers.. it's all about the long game and it's a new week :)

  6. Sometimes, we need a bad week food-wise. It's OK as long as it doesn't become the new norm (said by the person who just finished stress-eating a Medium (big) bag of peanut M&Ms). Good luck on the NYC lottery!! That one seems like it'd be a blast to do.

  7. Good luck with the NYC marathon and getting back on the training/tracking wagon. With everything going on last week, it's understandable that you wouldn't have the mental energy to track or train. You'll be great!
