Running trails and running friends

Happy 4th of July! I am so incredibly thankful for all of those who gave their lives, and still do- for our freedom.

Tonight we'll find a place to watch some fireworks. I'm sure the fireworks show at the Navy Pier would be incredible, but also a little crazy!

We're going to have some fun visitors today. My parents, and Annie's other 2 kiddos are coming up.
6 weeks without them seeing their Momma is a long time! So this will break the time up a little bit.
They'll be staying with us for one night, then driving a couple hours to Wisconsin to visit one of my other sisters, then stop back by here Thursday on their way back to KY. I can't wait to see them all!

The weather here is amazing! I've been running 6 days a week and I couldn't ask for better weather. It's been a little cool in the mornings, with a nice breeze. Nothing like the humid KY weather.
I run through a couple parks on my route, which are beautiful.

Saturday I had 6 miles planned, and someone told me about a trail here that's easy to miss if you don't know it's there.
I found it Friday and ran a little bit on it. I was a little uneasy to go too far since it's in the woods, and I run alone. But Saturday I brought my gun along with me, and ran 6 miles on it. (Getting my ccdw was the best decision ever!)
It was awesome. Can't wait to run on it again. There are so many places to run here.

Out for our walk
I met a girl at the house here (her son is going through the same thing K is going through), and she's a runner too. When we found out the other was a runner, we were so excited. Haha!
She's going home in a couple days, but we're going to get to run together on Wednesday. I can't wait!
I'll also be running with Lori, an Instagram friend, who lives in this area. I love making new running friends!

1 week down, 5 weeks to go at this beautiful Ronald McDonald House. There is so much we want to do in Chicago, I hope we have time to fit it all in!

What are your 4th of July plans?

  1. Good for you finding a running buddy.
You deserve the nice weather having have to 'weather' the hot humid air on your mission trip.
Glad you are having visitors come up - that really is a blessing to have people take the time to come visit.

  3. It sounds like you guys are staying busy! I think it's great how y'all are still able to have fun despite the circumstances for being there. Is your niece experiencing any bad side effects at this point?

    1. We really are having fun! Not anything too bad. She's had nausea and a headache and loss of appetite. But they're giving her medication for all that, so that helps.
